[Concentration in bone and haematoma of the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin (author's transl)].

Tobramycin concentrations were assayed in the rabbit in serum during surgery and in serum, haematoma and bone tissue of the condyle of the femur in the absence of surgery. After a single i. m. injection serum levels were found to be 30% higher initially than in humans, but then dropped at a faster rate to zero. The hardening haematoma appeared to slow penetration of the antibiotic. The concentration in bone tissue was dependent on vascular supply. Surgery did not show any influence on the level of the concentrations.

Animals

[Spondylitis caused by Salmonella typhimurium (author's transl)].

Described is a case of spondylitis caused by Salmonella typhimurium. According to literature osteomyelitis and spondylitis are rare as local manifestation of a salmonella infection. Spondylitis caused by Salmonella typhimurium, the most common species, is almost unknown. The problems in diagnosis and therapy are discussed.

Adult

[Long-term treatment with L-DOPA in a case of torsion dystonia (authors transl)].

A 36-year old woman had been able to move from place to place only by crawling until 1971 after she had been treated with L-DOPA, the dose of which was increased to a maximum of 2.5 g daily. Within 4 weeks there was a diminution of her increased muscle tone and she experienced a dramatic improvement in her daily living activities, being able to walk without assistance for the first time in 20 years. This improvement has continued with a daily maintenance dose of 1.25 g. For patients with torsion dystonia, where the so-called myostatic component preponderates, cautious application of L-DOPA seems to be justified and further clinical studies are suggested.
