Shape-controlled synthesis of 3D and 1D structures of CdS in a binary solution with L-cysteine's assistance.

A facile L-cysteine-assisted route was designed for the selectively controlled synthesis of 1D and novel, interesting 3D CdS spherical nanostructures constructed from CdS nanorods (or nanopolypods) in a binary solution. By controlling reaction conditions such as the molar ratio between Cd(OAc)2 and L-cysteine and the volume ratio of the mixed solvents, the synthesis of various 3D architectural structures and 1D wirelike structures in large quantities can be controlled. This is the first reported case of the direct growth of novel 3D self-assemblies of CdS nanorods (or nanopolypods). The morphology, structure, and phase composition of the as-prepared CdS products were examined by using various techniques (X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected-area electron diffraction (SAED), high-resolution TEM, and Raman spectroscopy). On the basis of the results from TEM studies and our analysis, we speculate that in the present synthesis the L-cysteine dominates nucleation growth and the ethylenediamine (en)-dominated, oriented-assembly process. Interestingly, the products obtained show a gradient evolution in color from light-yellow to dark-yellow, which implies that their intrinsic optical properties change, possibly due to variations in their special morphologies and structures. This facile solution-phase L-cysteine-assisted method could be extended for the controlled preparation of other metal chalcogenides nanostructures with complex morphologies.

[Change of oxygen free radical in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome after the operation of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the mechanism of multiple organ dysfunction in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) by observing the change of SOD,GSH-PX and MDA after uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP). METHOD: Colorimetric method was used to examine both the activity of SOD,GSH-PX and the content of MDA before and one month after UPPP in 30 patients with OSAHS. Thirty healthy people were chosen as normal control. RESULT: Before UPPP, the activity of SOD, GSH-PX and the content of MDA were (106.3 +/- 41.2) nmol/L (compared with the control group, P < 0.05), (61.8 +/- 6.5) kU/L (P < 0.05) and (6.27 +/- 1.73) mmol/L (P < 0.05) respectively; yet after the operation, the results were(128.5 +/- 33.1) nmol/L (compared with the control group, P > 0.05), (64.6 +/- 6.1) kU/L (P > 0.05) and (1.32 +/- 0.58) mmol/L (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The metabolism of oxygen free radical was badly imbalanced in patients with OSAHS, yet one month after UPPP, it was recovered to normal. This suggested that the metabolism imbalance of oxygen free radical was contributed to multiple organ dysfunction in such patients.

[Arousal response in child patients in obstructive sleep apnea].

OBJECTIVE: To analyze arousal response of Polysomnography (PSG) in children with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). METHOD: Fourty-eight children with sleep disorder were studied with 32 guide Polysomnography and analyzed by Polysmith. Sleep structure and arousals of preschool-aged and school-aged children with OSAHS were compared with those of primary snore patients. RESULT: The mean value of AHI of preschool aged children with OSAHS was (10.6+/-8.9) h, of AI was (4.0+/-7.1) h, of HI was (6.6+/-4.6) h; The sleep structure between OSAHS group and primary snore group was not significant (P > 0.05). The mean value of ArI with AHI was (8.2+/-5.9) h, of ArI with LM was (19.6+/-5.8) h, whole ArI was 49.3+/-20.4 in preschool-aged children with OSAHS; The mean value of ArI with AHI was (7.6+/-6.3) h, of ArI with LM was (14.3+/-7.6) h, whole ArI was 49.9+/-14.9 in school-aged children with OSAHS. Those of OSAHS children were higher than that of primary snore patients (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Although OSAHS in children is characterized by a restless sleep, the structure is perfect and mildly affected by OSAHS. The ArI with AHI, with LM and the whole ArI in OSAHS children is higher than those of primary snore patients.

[Polysomnography analysis in children].

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the characteristics of Polysomnography (PSG) in children with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS). METHOD: Forty-five children with sleep breathing disorder were studied with 32 guide PSG and analyzed by Polysmith. PSG results of OSAHS children were compared with primary snore group. RESULT: The mean age of OSAHS children was(7.3 +/- 3.8) years and the mean body weight was (40.1 +/- 19.7) kg. The mean value of NREM stage 1, stage 2, stage 3+4 and REM stage was(21.4 +/- 13.2)%, (43.1 +/- 13.7)%, (26.1 +/- 14.0) % and (9.4 +/- 6.0) % respectively. The sleep structure between OSAHS group and primary snore group was not significant (P > 0.05). The mean value of AHI of OSAHS children was(12.8 +/- 8.1) h. AI was (6.7 +/-6.6)h, HI was(6.1 +/- 5.1)h. CONCLUSION: The sleep structure of children is prefect and mild effected by OSAHS.

[Application of hyoid suspension in obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome].

OBJECTIVE: To treat OSAHS with hyoid suspension and evaluate treating effect. METHOD: Twenty-eight patients of median, severe OSAHS were treat with functional endoscopic sinus surgery, UPPP+ hyoid suspension. The length of follow up was 6 months. PSG was used for diagnosis and pre up, post up evaluation. RESULT: AHI of 28 patients reduced from (52.8 +/- 21.4)h to (15.2 +/- 13.3)h (P < 0.05). Effective rate is 85.7%. CONCLUSION: Hyoid suspension is an effective method of safety, simplicity, few complications.
