[Comparison of assessment of food intakes by using 3 dietary survey methods].

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the difference and correlation of food intakes assessed by Food Weighted Record, 24 Hours Recall and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) methods. SUBJECTS: The data of 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey were used. All 23,198 subjects (male 11,107, female 12,091) finished all three dietary survey methods. Food Weighted Record method weighted all food items consumed at home by all family members in last 3 days; 24 Hours Recall recorded all food items the subjects consumed at and out home in last 3 days; FFQ recorded the main 33 categories food items that the subjects consumed at and out home in last year. RESULTS: Compared to Food Weighted Record method, food intakes assessed by 24 hours recall were similar, and the relative differences were less than 10% of most food items. The proportion of over-report and under-report (+/- 25%) by 24 Hours Recall were less than 40%. The correlation coefficients of food intakes between Food Weighted Record and 24 Hours Recall methods ranged from 0.58 to 0.88. The results from Food Weighted Record and FFQ were similar among the high frequently consumed food items. The relative differences of the food intakes investigated between Food Weighted Record and FFQ were less than 15% and the proportion of over-report and under-report (+/- 25%) by FFQ were more than 50%. The correlation coefficients of food intakes between Food Weighted Record and FFQ ranged from 0.08 to 0.76. CONCLUSION: Food intakes might be assessed accurately by the Food Weighted Record revised 24 Hours Recall method, and FFQ method be also used to assess the food intakes, especially for the frequently consumed food items, as to studying the relationship between food consumption and health.

[Effect of nutritional status during infancy and childhood on the risk of overweight and obesity in adulthood].

OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between fetal nutritional status and overweight and obesity in their adulthood and to provide evidence for formulation of the strategy on preventing low birth weight. METHODS: Using data from 2002 Nationwide Nutrition and Health Survey to set up a case-control method in order to compare body mass index(BMI), prevalence of overweight and obesity as well as to calculate odds ratio of overweight and obesity of case group compared with control group. Three case groups were selected from those who were born in 1959, 1960,1961 respectively, and the controls were those who were born in 1964. RESULTS: The health consequence of being famines on adulthood was evident in women. Means of BMI in women were significantly higher in three case groups than that in control group(P<0.01). After adjustment on geographic regions, the prevalence of overweight in women was significantly higher in three case groups than that in control group(P< 0.01). The prevalence rates of obesity were significantly higher in 1959, 1960 groups than 1964 group(P< 0.05). The odds ratios of overweight of women in three case groups were 28.9% (95% CI:1.063-1.565), 37.2% (95% CI:1. 136-1.658) and 35.2% (95% CI: 1. 103-1.657) respectively, all higher than that in the control group. The odds ratios of obesity of women born in 1959, 1960 groups were 46.5% (95% CI: 1.088-1.972) and 39.6% (95% CI: 1.039- 1.876) respectively, higher than that in the 1964 group. However, such differences were not found in men. CONCLUSION: Higher risks of overweight and obesity in women were caused by malnutrition during their fetal lives. A strategy on preventing low birth weight should be formulated by the government to prevent the chronic disease in adulthood.

[Epidemiologic characteristics of dyslipidemia in people aged 18 years and over in China].

OBJECTIVE: To study the difference in prevalence of dyslipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and low blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) between the residents of urban and rural areas of varied regions in China. METHODS: Fasting plasma levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride and HDL-C were determined with the enzyme methods for 49,252 subjects aged 18 and over during August to December, 2002. RESULTS: Prevalence of dyslipidemia in Chinese adults aged 18 and over was 18.6%, with 17.0%, 22.9% and 23.4% in the groups of 18-44, 45-59 and over 60 years old, respectively, 22.2% and 15.9% in males and females, respectively, and 21.0% and 17.7% in urban and rural areas, respectively. Prevalence of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and low blood HDL-C in those aged 18 and over was 2.9%, 11.9% and 7.4%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Dyslipidemia has become one of important risk factors threatening health of Chinese people, with hypertriglyceridemia and low blood HDL-C as two major types in those aged 18 and over. Prevalence of dyslipidemia was nearly the same in the middle-aged and in the elderly people, and not significantly different in those living in urban areas from those in rural areas. It is very important to pay more attention to earlier comprehensive prevention and control of dyslipidemia.

[Temperature distribution measurement of high energetic monopropellant by spectroscopic diagnostic technology].

The combustion flame temperature distribution in the axes are measured by relative intensity method of the spectroscopic diagnostic technology for monopropellant hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW) at 3 MPa and 5 MPa pressure, respectively. The investigation results show that the curves of combustion flame temperature distribution in all combustion course are accurately measured by relative intensity method for monopropellant HNIW. The measured highest combustion flame temperature in the axes are lower than theoretical combustion temperature at the same pressure, and are more close to theoretical combustion temperature along with the rising of the pressure. The experimental results indicate that the combustion flame temperature distribution can be measured by the relative intensity method for high energetic and high burning rate propellant at higher pressure.

[Flame temperature distribution measurement of solid propellants].

Many high temperature bodies such as flame, in which chemical reactions are very complex, emit their own spectra. These emission spectra usually consist of the spectral lines, spectral bands and the continuous spectra. In some cases, the spectral lines gather together. It is very difficult to find the right single spectral line when the spectral line intensity method is used. To deal with this problem, the idea that the single spectral line intensity is replaced by the total intensity of many spectral lines to measure the temperature is mentioned. And the relative intensity method is also changed to deal with this idea. The measurement of the temperature distribution based on this improved method is successful, and the measurement results are compared with the results of the thermocouple method.

[The correction to spectroscopic diagnostics of plasma jet with air engulfment].

A high-resolution, multi-line spectroscopic diagnostic system was used to detect two spectral line intensities in plasma jet simultaneously. The temperature profiles of an arc plasma jet issued into atmosphere and the concentrations of the air engulfment in the plasma jet were experimentally determined by means of the line absolute intensity method in this paper. The temperature profiles were obtained in two cases: the air engulfment in the plasma jet being considered and not being considered. The comparison of temperatures obtained in these two cases illustrates that the air engulfment in the plasma jet has considerable influence on spectroscopic diagnostic results. The neglect of the air engulfment brings on error in the temperature diagnostics with the absolute line intensity method. Especially in the region far away from the exit of the nozzle, the error is obvious.

[Treatment of advanced metastatic breast cancer with exemestane, a multicenter randomized controlled study of 195 cases].

OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy of exemestane for postmenopausal advanced metastatic breast cancer, and to assess its side effects. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind, and parallel controlled study was conducted among 195 patients with postmenopausal advanced metastatic breast cancer from December 2001 to June 2002. Except for the 4 cases who were lost to follow-up, the remaining 191 patients were divided into two groups: study group (n = 96, treated with exemestane capsule 25 mg and one model tablet of letrozole orally q.d. for 8 weeks), and control group (n = 95, treated with letrozole 2.5 mg and one model capsule of exemestane orally q.d. for 8 weeks). Physical examination, roentgenography and CT were conducted to observe the outcome of the tumor and the level of estrogen was tested 2 weeks before and 4 and 8 weeks after the beginning of treatment. RESULTS: The effective rate was 44.8% in the study group and 45.3% in the control group (P = 0.971). The level of estradiol was 5.17 +/- 6.68 x 10(4) pg/L and 4.19 +/- 3.06 x 10(4) pg/L in the study group and control group respectively; and was 3.08 +/- 2.80 x 10(4) pg/L and 2.76 +/- 1.98 x 10(4) pg/L in the study group and control group respectively 8 weeks after the beginning of treatment, both decreased by 43.7% in comparison with those before treatment (both P < 0.001), however, there was no significant difference between the study group and control group (P = 0.141). The side effects of exemestane included thirst, giddiness, and nausea. CONCLUSION: An effective hormonal medicine, exemestane has good therapeutic efficacy in postmenopausal advanced metastatic breast cancer with only mild side effects.

[Multi-center prospective randomized trial on paclitaxel liposome and traditional taxol in the treatment of breast cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer].

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effects and side effects of paclitaxel liposome formula on breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, compared with traditional taxol. METHODS: 129 patients from multicenters were prospectively randomized into a test group, given paclitaxel liposome at 135 mg/m(2) each session, and a control group, given traditional taxol at 135 mg/m(2) each session. Both groups received these regimens combined with ADM or DDP for two cycles (3 weeks per cycle). RESULTS: Of 129 cases, 128 were eligible for the analysis of side effects and 126 for the overall response rate. The complete remission rate, partial remission rate and overall response rate were 1.6%, 33.3%, 34.9% in the test group and 6.3%, 22.2%, 28.6% in the control group. There was no significant difference between the two groups. Though there was no significant difference in hematological toxicity between the two groups, the toxicity from the mixed solvent of polyethoxylated castor oil and ethanol was significantly lower in the test group than that in the control group. CONCLUSION: Paclitaxel liposome combined with ADM or DDP in the treatment of advanced breast cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer, being similarly effective as taxol, can significantly lower the incidence of serious hypersensitive reactions.

[Study on the fluctuation phenomena of arc plasma spraying jet].

The turbulence phenomenon is one of the most attractive characteristics of a DC arc plasma spraying jet. Most of the previous investigations believe that there is a laminar flow region in core of the jet. A spectrum diagnostic system has been built up in this paper to investigate these effects with the aid of high-speed digital camera. The FFT method has been applied to the analysis on the arc voltage and light signals. The influence of the arc behavior and the power supply on the jet is full-scale. It seems that there is not a laminar flow region in core of the jet. Moreover, from the light dynamic variation graph, the jet fluctuation due to the arc voltage behavior maybe is the dominant characteristic of the jet behavior.
