[Concepts of the relationship between dementia and depression in Weingartner's works: a critical study].

The School of Weingartner has construct a theoretical framework for defining cognition, in which changes in cognitive performance may be related to alterations in "intrinsic" cognitive processes (episodic memory, semantic memory, processes requiring effort or performed more automatically) or non cognitive "extrinsic" processes (sensitivity to reinforcement, arousal/activation, sensorimotor capabilities, mood). The empiric fertility of this pattern enriches our knowledges about depression and dementia. It is able to describe suitably some relevant facts under the view of a systemization and to support the idea that the component processes of memory are psychobiologically distinct. One cannot nevertheless ignore the issue of the value of the cognitive categories produced. It is possible to judge the episodic memory by the semantic memory? The basis on which the latter is measured is more restrictive than the basis upon which it was originally defined; the quantitative experiments don't take into account the modalities of the realization of the meaning. The notion of effort is still an area of investigation more than an enrichment of answers. It must be closely related to the notion of anticipation and take care of the spatiotemporal presentations from which the thought organizes the stimuli and adapts itself to the content of cognition in the circumstances of the experiment. A place must be done especially in dementia in the limits of the paradigmatic power of that pattern and in the criterions of exclusion separating the demented/-non depressed from the demented/depressed subjects.

Cognition

[Too much or not enough in dementia].

Inside the silence with demented subjects, they suddenly name or design a present reality; they are attesting the quality of an object or its place inside space. Variable forces are always stated in an impersonal way. Nothing is announcing this testimony, nothing seems to justify it. It does not concern personal life at it's present time, does not state any promise for future, does not refer to any former times. The subject is creating the object: he says and it was. This disclosure is strictly related to prophecy which is choosing its material in the profane and ordinary language. We might be talking about inspiration, due to the fact that these revelations are appealing to an existential answer. We sometimes still have to do with such ways of thinking when they are remembering something and their sentences are relating to established facts: we are in present and past, punctual instant resuming, containing, anticipating all the others and cancelling them at the same time. It's not a question of souvenirs any more. The particular aspect of that language is more relating to onirism.

Cognition Disorders

[Survival].

In a shared silence, the demented patients suddenly name or designate an accurate reality: they attest to the quality of a thing or its place in space. These proposals appear to be simply precarious certainties doomed to the resorption of forgetfulness. Ever since then the thoughts never face the named thing as in front of a previous objectivity, but present to the movement from which they proceed. What is conquered with naming is not the knowledge that acknowledges something: what exists is confounded with what seems to be; knowledge and creation are identical. The patient creates the object; he asserts, and what is asserted is therefore created. Likewise we have underlined this same thought which has the value of an action in onirism. This form of creation sets problems which involve a conception of the life of spirit that enables us to perceive its richness. Some precisions are brought on the creative hallucination of the mother by the baby and the maternal consent to this creation. These remarks confirm our reticence about any binary algorithm and explain that we cannot commit ourselves to some formalizations such as Freud's (the negative hallucination, and Lacan's Name-of-the-Father).
