[The structure, function and recent reseach of pRNA].

In the bacteriophage phi29, a virus-encoded RNA(pRNA) is required for the packaging of its genomic DNA. Six pRNAs form a hexamer through pRNA/pRNA interaction to drive the DNA translocation motor, and ATP as the energy resource. Chimeric pRNAs can steadily combine with siRNA, ribozymes and anti-sense RNA, and then be transferred into the cancer cells and viral-infected cells by RNA nanotechnology. The continued study of pRNA will help us to understand the origin of the life and explore its possible applications.

[The structure and function of plant WRKY transcription factors].

WRKY transcription factors that are unique to plants are the new type transcriptional regulatory factors in which N-terminal ends contain a conserved WRKYGQR amino acids sequences. WRKY transcription factors regulate the target genes expression that contain the W-box elements in the promoter regions by specifically binding to (T)(T)TGAC(C/T) sequence. Therefore, the WRKY transcription factors participate in the plant various kinds defense responses and regulate the plant growth and development. This article reviews the progress of the basic structure and biological function of plant WRKY transcription factors.

Comparison of chloroplast DNA between photoperiod-sensitive genic male sterile (PGMS) rice Nongken58S and its derivative sterile lines.

The ORF100, ORF29-TrnC(GCA) spacer, rps16 gene intron and TrnT(UGU)-TrnL(UAA) spacer of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) of 6 photoperiod-sensitive genic male sterile (PGMS) rice, Nongken58S and its 5 derivatives, were amplified and sequenced. According to the result of ORF100 and ORF29-TrnC(GCA) spacer analysis, the cpDNA of japonica PGMS line Nongken58S was Japonica, and among those PGMS lines derived from Nongken58S, cpDNA of japonica 7001S and 3 indica lines 1103S, Peiai64S and Guangzhan63S were that of japonica, which was in accordance with the cytoplasm pedigree provided by their breeders. But the cpDNA of indica PGMS line W6154S was that of indica, which disaccorded with the cytoplasm pedigree, so we conjectured that the breeders had used the PGMS line as the male parent. Basing on the result of sequence analysis, we found single nucleotide polymorphism in rps16 gene intron and TrnT(UGU)-TrnL(UAA) spacer of these 5 japonica PGMS lines.

[The structure and function of tmRNA].

tmRNA is a dual small RNA similar to a tRNA and a mRNA which plays an important role in an unusual mode of translation--trans translation. Recently, it was found that tmRNA had something to do with regulating gene expression and cell cycle. So the researchers have paid much attention on such area. Furthermore, it is an important part in RNomics era. This article reviews the progress about the structure and function of tmRNA in recent years.
