Immunoaffinity column cleanup with liquid chromatography using post-column bromination for aflatoxins in medicinal herbs and plant extracts.

A new and accurate method to quantitate aflatoxins in medicinal herbs is developed. This method consists of extraction of the sample with MeOH-H2O (70:30) followed by clean-up of the extracts with immunoaffinity columns and, finally, high-performance liquid chromatographic determination with fluorescence detection. Aflatoxins B1 and G1 are determined as their bromine derivatives, produced in an online post-column derivatization system. The overall average recoveries for three different medicinal herbs spiked at levels of 1.3 and 2.6 ng/g of total aflatoxins range from 93% to 97%. The detection limit is 0.15 ng/g for both G2 and B2 and 0.20 ng/g for both G1 and B1, based on a signal-to-noise ratio of 3:1 and a precision (within-laboratory relative standard deviation) ranging from 0.8% to 1.4%. The use of immunoaffinity columns provides excellent clean-up of these particular extracts, which are generally difficult to analyze. The method is applied successfully to 96 samples of natural drugs.

[Clinical application of laryngeal endoscopy in the minimally invasive surgery of laryngeal diseases].

OBJECTIVE: To study the value of laryngeal endoscopic system in the treatment of laryngeal diseases with minimally invasive surgery. METHOD: This paper was to summarized retrospectively the clinical experience of 34 cases suffered from laryngeal diseases treated by minimally invasive surgery with laryngeal endoscopic system. The remain tumor and hemorrhage were treated by microwave machine. The malignant tumors were treated by radiotherapy with 60Co in 40 Gy, postoperatively. RESULT: The tumors were totally resected and no serious complications were revealed. Followed-up these 34 cases, 26 cases with benign pathological changes who had hoarseness preoperatively recovered to normal 1-month after operation. In 2 cases with vocal cord carcinoma at the early stage, the functions and construction of throat were retained and no recurrence was founded after 6-12 month postoperatively. CONCLUSION: The laryngeal endoscopic system is valuable in treating laryngeal pathological regions and early stage carcinoma for its minimally invasion, wide operative field, good illuminative degree and normal construction and function reserved.

[Exploration of diagnosis and treatment of maxillary aneurysmal bone cyst (report of 4 cases and review of literature)].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the diagnosis and treatment of maxillary aneurysmal bone cyst. METHOD: For 4 cases with maxillary aneurysmal bone cyst, 1 case underwent radical maxillary sinusotomy in local anaesthesia and 3 cases underwent lateral rhinotomy in general anaestesia. RESULT: The 4 cases were followed up for 13 months to 2 years after operation and no patient was found recurrence. CONCLUSION: The main treatment of aneurysmal bone cyst was radical operation, to strive for thorough treatment. Confirming and embolizing the feed artery by DSA preoperatively can reduce bleeding during operation and shorten the time of operation and general anesthesia obviously.

Simultaneous determination of seven compounds in snow lotus herb using high-performance liquid chromatography.

A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method is developed for the quantitative determination of seven components of Snow Lotus Herb (Saussurea tridactyla Sch.-Bip.ex Hook.f.): umbelliferonglucoside, luteolin-7-O-beta-D-glucoside, rutin, apigenin-7-O-beta-D-glucoside, kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-glucoside, apigenin-7-O-beta-D-rutinoside, and luteolin. Samples are analyzed by means of a reverse-phase column (Diamonsil C(18)) using methanol and water under gradient conditions as the mobile phase for 60 min. This method offers selectivity, accuracy, precision, linearity, and ruggedness, as well as efficiency and ease.
