Efficacy and safety of standard versus low-dose Femarelle (DT56a) for the treatment of menopausal symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: In a previous study treatment with a daily standard dose of Femarelle (644 mg/day) resulted in a significant elevation in bone mineral density (BMD) while a reduced dose resulted in a decrease in BMD. The aim of the current study was to examine the efficacy and safety of the two doses of Femarelle in the treatment of menopausal symptoms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty healthy postmenopausal women were randomly allocated to receive either the standard dose (SD) or low dose (LD) of Femarelle (644 mg/day vs 344 mg/day). A detailed medical history was taken on enrollment, followed by a physical examination, pelvic ultrasound, and sex hormone and lipid profiles. A detailed Kupperman index for each patient was completed. These measures were repeated every three months for 12 months. RESULTS: In both groups there was a significant reduction in the Kupperman index following 12 weeks of treatment, which was sustained throughout the 12 months of treatment (p < 0.01). Seventy-six percent of the patients in the SD group reported a decrease in vasomotor symptoms and seventy eight % in the LD group (NS). This decrease was sustained following 12 months of treatment. There was no change in TSH and sex hormone levels or endometrial thickness during the study period. CONCLUSIONS: In the current study we found that menopausal symptoms were reduced similarly by LD and SD, however for the combined treatment of menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis the standard dosage of 644 mg/day of Femarelle is needed.

The impact of hormonal therapy for infertility on the age at menopause.

OBJECTIVES: To look for possible association between past history of ovulation induction and age at menopause. DESIGN: Women attending our postmenopausal outpatient clinic were asked to fill questionnaires with demographic data, obstetrical history (including treatment for infertility), and medical details related to menopause. PATIENTS: The study group (n=31) consisted of women with a history of ovulation induction, and a control group (n=200) included women who did not experience such intervention. RESULTS: The age at the final menstrual bleeding was 46.4+/-5 in the study group, and 50+/-4 for the control group (P<0.001). This difference was most prominent for women who had induction of ovulation prior to age 35 years: they entered menopause at age 43.8+/-5 years. Smoking had a weak effect on the age at menopause (48.5+/-4 for current, vs. 49.9+/-4 for non- or past-smokers; P<0.03). CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective and preliminary study raises the question whether hormonal manipulations and ovarian over-stimulation during fertility treatments could be a risk factor for premature menopause.

Haemophilus influenza type b vaccine in Israel: experience in a paediatric ambulatory clinic.

In Israel, vaccination are the overall responsibility of the government. We were the first in Israel to give the Hib (Haemophilus influenza type b) vaccine to the population, through independent means, without government control. The aim of the study was to follow longitudinally the specific group of children vaccinated in our ambulatory clinic. In this study, 1,497 children between 2 and 52 [mean (SD) 13 (9)] months of age at the time of first vaccination were vaccinated with Hib vaccine. Over the next 7 years, they were followed up by repeated phone calls when parents were asked about hospitalisation and any serious infectious diseases. Of the 1,497, 1,444 were followed during the years 1992 to 1999 and 36 were hospitalised during this time. All blood and cerebrospinal fluid cultures were negative. No proven case of Hib infection could be demonstrated. Despite the small sample size, this study justifies the continued use of the vaccine along with maintaining surveillance for Hib infection.

The effect of oophorectomy and estrogen replacement therapy on Doppler derived parameters of aortic flow.

OBJECTIVES: The immediate consequences of surgical castration and estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) on left ventricular systolic performance as assessed by Doppler-derived parameters of aortic flow were examined. METHODS: A follow up study comprising two groups: eight premenopausal women who underwent hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy and started ERT 1 week after surgery - the study group, and a control group consisted of eight premenopausal women who did not start ERT following hysterectomy. Doppler echocardiography was performed before surgery, 1 week and 1 month post surgery. RESULTS: In both groups significant increase in heart rate was observed after 1 week, remaining high after 1 month in the control group only. The early post-operative period in all women was characterized by an increase in aortic flow velocity, but was statistically significant in the study group only. After initiation of ERT a significant decrease in peak flow velocity (PFV) and mean acceleration (MA) was recorded. CONCLUSIONS: Changes in estradiol level may be associated with alterations in left ventricular function. The initial and acute effect of estrogen on the heart muscle after surgical castration is towards a decrease in Doppler-derived parameters of aortic flow. Whether these effects represent a depression of left ventricular function, or alternatively, reflect peripheral vasculature reactivity, requires further evaluation.

Gender paradox in cardiac calcium deposits in middle-aged and elderly patients: mitral annular and coronary calcifications interrelationship.

OBJECTIVES: mitral annular calcification (MAC) occurs mainly in middle-aged and elderly patients and can lead to serious clinical consequences. Male predominance in the prevalence of coronary disease is well-established. Paradoxically, the prevalence of MAC, which is theoretically based on the same etiological mechanisms as coronary atherosclerosis, seems to be predominant in postmenopausal women. The goal of this work was to investigate gender influences on interrelationship between MAC and coronary calcifications (CC) in the same population of middle-aged and elderly patients with increased cardiovascular risk. METHODS: the study comprised 522 patients (284 men and 238 postmenopausal women, aged 52-80 years, mean 65+/-6), who were recruited to the International Nifedipine GITS Study of Intervention as a Goal in Hypertension Treatment (INSIGHT) study in our region. They underwent both fast spiral computed tomography of the heart and echo-Doppler. MAC was defined as advanced when its thickness was > or =5mm; otherwise it was defined as trivial. RESULTS: there were 37 (16%) women and 25 (9%) men with advanced MAC (AMAC), 97 (41%) women and 118 (42%) men with trivial MAC and 104 (44%) women and 141 (50%) men without MAC. The prevalence of any type of CC was significantly higher among men (P=0. 001). In sharp contrast to the distinct male predominance in coronary disease, AMAC was more prevalent among women. In patients without CC prevalence was 9 and 4%, increasing to 16 and 8% in those with nonsevere CC and to 38 and 14% in patients with severe CC, respectively (P=0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that AMAC can predict the presence of severe CC in women and men, with OR of 4.1 and 2.6 (CI 1.2-14.8 and 1.0-10.6) and coronary disease with OR of 2. 5 and 2.5 (CI 0.6-10.6 and 1.0-6.4), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: AMAC signifies a high probability of coronary atherosclerosis in patients of both genders. The inverted gender predominance in the prevalence of annular calcification and CC could be explained by additional etiological (likely osteoporotic) mechanisms of MAC development among postmenopausal women.

The best donor.

Oocyte donation has become a common treatment modality for a large spectrum of infertility conditions. The purpose of this study was to assess the success rate of a shared egg donation programme, and to define the profile of a successful 'donor-recipient' couple in view of the limitations imposed by the shared programme. The results of all consecutive cycles of egg donation from 1st January 1995 to 31st December 1996 were analysed. A total of 383 donor cycles were matched with 946 recipient cycles; clinical pregnancy rates were 23. 5 and 16.7% respectively. With the exception of endometriosis, which significantly reduced the pregnancy rate in both groups, similar pregnancy rates were obtained in both groups for all the other infertility aetiologies of the donors. The donor's age had no impact on pregnancy rate of the recipient, but pregnancy rate was significantly decreased in donors >35 years. Recipients >50 years had significantly reduced pregnancy rates and those >45 years a significantly increased abortion rate. Recipients with severe male factor infertility, who had intracytoplasmic sperm injection treatment, showed pregnancy rates equivalent to those recipients who had regular in-vitro fertilization. We conclude that in a shared egg donation programme, the recipients' pregnancy rate and outcome are dependent only on the donors' infertility aetiologies and on recipients' ages.

Sperm motility is a major determinant of pregnancy outcome following intrauterine insemination.

PURPOSE: Our purpose was to assess whether one or more sperm parameters have predictive value for the outcome of intrauterine insemination treatment. METHODS: Infertile couples whose normoovulatory and normomechanical female partners underwent superovulation and intrauterine insemination were investigated. The semen profile of the male partner was discounted. In 160 couples, 544 cycles were obtained, resulting in 59 ongoing pregnancies (10.84%/cycle, 36.87%/patient). RESULTS: The only parameter found to be significantly correlated with a positive outcome was the degree of sperm motility following preparation for intrauterine insemination. Close to half (47.5%) of the couples with a very good or an excellent degree of sperm motility conceived, whereas only 8.3% of those patients who had poor or fair sperm motility conceived. None of the semen characteristics, such as volume, count, percentage motility, or percentage normal morphology, were found to correlate with cycle outcome. Although there was a progressive increase in the pregnancy rate with an increase in the total number of motile sperm inseminated, it did not reach significance. Seventy percent of the pregnancies were achieved within a maximum of three treatment cycles. The spermatogram is not accurate enough as a prognostic factor for treatment outcome. CONCLUSIONS: The degree of sperm motility, after appropriate preparation for intrauterine insemination, is the only parameter to be correlated with treatment outcome. For couples with a normal female partner, we suggest a maximum of three treatment cycles of induction of ovulation and intrauterine insemination, whenever good progressive motile sperm is obtained after suitable preparation. For cases with poor sperm progression, we suggest appropriate couple counseling and that an alternative assisted reproduction procedure be taken into consideration.

Obstetric outcome after RhD and Kell testing.

The study was conducted to report on the use of molecular biology methods and pregnancy outcome in women sensitized to either Rhesus D (RhD) or Kell 1 (K1) antigens. Paternal RhD genotype was determined by DNA amplification of an RhD-specific sequence from single sperm cells. Paternal Kell phenotype was determined by serologic assays using peripheral blood samples, and the fetal RhD or Kell-type status were established by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with amniotic cells. Thirteen women (14 pregnancies, one with twins) sensitized to RhD and four sensitized to K1 antigens, comprised the study group. All had paternal heterozygosity to either D or K1 antigens. Nine fetuses were RhD positive and five were RhD negative. An additional woman underwent early spontaneous abortion. The nine RhD-positive fetuses underwent a total of 41 invasive procedures. One fetus with hydrops fetalis died in utero after intrauterine blood transfusion. All the remaining RhD-positive fetuses were delivered after 33 weeks gestation, and all those who were RhD negative were delivered at term. Four women were sensitized to the K1 antigen; in three, the fetus was found to be K1 negative, and in one, K1 positive, necessitating intrauterine blood transfusion. In all cases, the results of RhD or K1 genotype analyses from amniotic fluid were compatible with fetal/neonatal red blood cell RhD or Kell phenotypes. In conclusion, the use of molecular biology techniques represents a major advance in the clinical management of RhD and Kell alloimmunization.

The outcome of in-vitro fertilization treatment by egg donation and intracytoplasmatic sperm injection for severe male factor infertility: a preliminary report.

Due to a paucity of donated eggs, we have excluded, until recently, couples with severe male factor infertility from our egg donation programme, except for those who accepted insemination with donor spermatozoa. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of a shared in-vitro fertilization (IVF)-embryo transfer treatment whenever the recipients have severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OTA) and need intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for egg fertilization. The results from 163 consecutive couples with ovarian failure who underwent 273 cycles of IVF with donated eggs and augmented with ICSI were analysed. The rate of diploid fertilization was 54.7%; in 92.3% of the cycles, at least one embryo was available for transfer. Forty-seven clinical pregnancies were achieved, representing 18.6% conceptions per transfer. The highest pregnancy rate was achieved in menopausal patients aged 40-45 years (26.2% per cycle) and the lowest in patients >45 years old (10.8% per cycle, P = 0.03). Overall, 28.8% of the couples achieved a clinical pregnancy. A total of 196 treatment cycles resulted in 46 clinical pregnancies (23.5%) among the donors. No statistical differences were found in pregnancy rate achieved by the donors when compared with the recipients. We conclude that ICSI with egg donation is a reliable treatment in patients with ovarian failure and severe OTA.

Renal reabsorption of inorganic phosphorus in pregnancy in relation to the calciotropic hormones.

OBJECTIVE: To measure renal reabsorption of inorganic phosphorus and the calciotropic hormones in early and late pregnancy. DESIGN: Prospective, cross-sectional study. SETTING: Endocrine Institute at Assaf Harofeh and E. Wolfson Medical Centers; the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Sheba Medical Centre and Tel Aviv University. POPULATION: Three groups of healthy women were studied: pregnant women at the end of the first trimester (n = 20), pregnant women at the end of the third, trimester (n = 22), and nonpregnant controls (n = 27). METHODS AND MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The renal tubular maximal phosphorus reabsorption per decilitre of glomerular filtrate (TmP/GFR) was measured in all women. Circulating levels of intact parathyroid hormone, calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D3) and insulin-like growth factor I were assayed in part of the women (8-11 of each group). RESULTS: TmP/GFR was elevated in the first trimester group (mean 0.263 mmol/L) compared with controls (95% CI 0.07-0.46, P = 0.003). Third trimester values did not differ from controls. Serum calcitriol in the first trimester group was higher (mean difference 17.68 pg/mL) compared with controls (95% CI 3.89-31.47, P = 0.006) and was higher still (mean difference 20.75 pg/mL) in the third trimester group (95% CI 1.01-40.49, P = 0.042). Serum parathyroid hormone in the first trimester group was lower than in controls or the third trimester group: mean differences were 4.40 pg/mL (95% CI-1.40 to 10.15, P = 0.078) and 8.18 pg/mL (95% CI 0.51-15.85, P = 0.019) respectively. Parathyroid hormone levels correlated negatively to calcitriol levels in the combined control and first trimester groups (r = -0.54, P = 0.022) and negatively to TmP/GFR values in the combined three groups (r = -0.68, P = 0.042). First trimester levels of insulin-like growth factor I were lower than those in controls or in the third trimester: mean differences were 10.24 nmol/L (95% CI 2.05-18.43, P = 0.007) and 13.57 nmol/L (95% CI 4.23-22.91, P = 0.003), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The dominant change in mineral metabolism in pregnancy is a rise in calcitriol which most probably is responsible for the relative suppression of parathyroid hormone and thereby for the rise in TmP/GFR in early pregnancy. All the above support the transfer of minerals to the fetus without compromising maternal bone. The significance of circulating insulin-like growth factor I remains unclear.

Does hormone replacement therapy inhibit coronary artery calcification?

OBJECTIVE: To determine the association between the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and coronary calcium, in postmenopausal women who had no history of coronary artery disease by double helical computed tomography (CT). METHODS: We used CT to compare the prevalence and extent of coronary calcium in 41 postmenopausal women who were on HRT from the first year of menopause and 37 age-matched controls who had never used HRT. RESULTS: Both groups had a similar rate of smoking, hypertension, a positive family history, and hypercholesterolemia. Coronary calcification was observed in 28.2% of the 78 women studied. The prevalence of coronary calcium was significantly lower among HRT users: six of the 47 (14.6%), compared with 16 of the 37 nonusers (43.2%) (P < .01). The recorded risk factors had no effect on the prevalence of coronary calcium. Stepwise logistic regression analysis, including age, coronary risk factors, and HRT use as independent variables, yielded HRT as the only variable determining the presence of coronary calcium (odds ratio = 0.2; 95% confidence interval 0.06, 0.63; P = .006). CONCLUSION: The lower incidence of coronary calcium in the HRT users suggests that HRT is associated with decreased prevalence of the coronary calcification.

Second primary cancers in a cohort of Israeli women with primary gynecologic malignancies.

Second cancer in a women with a primary gynecological malignancy could reflect a common etiology or sequealae of a potentially carcinogenic treatment. The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence rate of second primary cancer in a cohort of women with primary gynecological cancer and patient characteristics, namely age, diagnosis, type of treatment, and duration of follow-up. The study cohort comprised 925 Israeli Jewish women with histologically confirmed gynecologic malignancies. The file was linked by computer matching to the Israel Cancer Registry for identification of second primary cancers. Standardized incidence rates (SIRs) for site-specific as well as for all cancer were computed. A significant excess for subsequent leukemia among ovarian (SIR 10; 95% CI 1.1-36.1) and uterine corporal cancer patients (SIR 10.0; 95% CI 2.7-25.6) was found. The significant increase in leukemia was treatment-related and limited to patients treated with radiotherapy. Age older than 60 years constituted a significantly unfavorable factor. The estimated probability of developing a subsequent cancer at 175 months is 6.1%. Physicians should be aware of the possibility of a second primary malignancy when prescribing treatment and during follow-up.

The effect of estrogen replacement therapy on zinc in serum and urine.

OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the influence of estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) on blood and urinary zinc in postmenopausal women. METHODS: Thirty-seven postmenopausal women aged 53.2 +/- 3.7 years were examined. All were treated with conjugated estrogens 0.625 mg and medroxyprogesterone acetate 5 mg. Zinc, magnesium, calcium, phosphate, and alkaline phosphatase levels in blood were measured before and after 6 and 12 months of treatment. Urinary excretion of zinc, magnesium, calcium, phosphate, and hydroxyproline were evaluated before and after 3, 6, and 12 months of therapy. Bone mineral density was examined before treatment and after 1.7 +/- 0.3 years of ERT. Subjects were classified by 1) initial bone mineral density values (osteoporotics less than 0.850 g/cm2) and 2) zinc excretion as elevated (greater than 600 micrograms/g creatinine). RESULTS: At baseline, the values of most markers of bone turnover were higher in the osteoporotic women (Hotelling test, P = .06). After 1 year of treatment, a higher decrease of most indices was observed in the osteoporotic patients, and no statistical difference was found between the osteoporotic and the normal groups (Hotelling test, P = .31). A consistent negative association was observed between changes in bone mineral density and urinary zinc excretion in the osteoporosis group. Estrogen replacement therapy reduced excretion of zinc, magnesium, and hydroxyproline in the elevated zinc excretion group. Zinc excretion decreased 35% after 3 months and 26% after 1 year of treatment. The serum tests, with the exception of alkaline phosphatase, showed only negligible changes during ERT. CONCLUSION: A significant decrease in zinc excretion was observed after 3 months of ERT. This change was more pronounced in women with osteoporosis and elevated zinc excretion. Because zinc excretion is almost uninfluenced by variation in diet, it may be used as an additional marker of changes in bone metabolism.

Atrial natriuretic peptide plasma level remains unchanged in various hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

The decreased volume of maternal extracellular fluid in preeclamptics may result in a different rate of atrial natriuretic peptide secretion and thus affect its plasma levels. Our objectives were to determine whether there was a difference in plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide in the various hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Forty-nine pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy were evaluated: 21 with preeclampsia, 17 with chronic hypertension during pregnancy and 11 normotensives. The atrial natriuretic peptide concentration was 13.9 +/- 5.9 pg/ml, 17.8 +/- 13.5 pg/ml and 16.7 +/- 7.4 pg/ml in the preeclamptics, chronic hypertensives and normotensives, respectively. The differences between the three groups were not statistically significant. Atrial natriuretic peptide plasma levels remained stable in the various hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Endometrial blood flow response to estrogen replacement therapy and tamoxifen in asymptomatic, postmenopausal women: a transvaginal Doppler study.

This study was conducted to evaluate endometrial blood flow characteristics in response to estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) and tamoxifen in asymptomatic postmenopausal women, and to correlate the resistance index (RI) with plasma estradiol levels. Transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound examinations were performed in 30 asymptomatic, postmenopausal women who demonstrated thin endometria (< 0.5 cm). Ten healthy women receiving ERT and ten women with breast cancer receiving tamoxifen comprised the study groups. Ten postmenopausal women free of any hormonal treatment comprised the control group. Blood flow response was assessed by visualization of arterial waveforms in the endometrial region. Resistance indices were calculated for analysis and correlated with peripheral blood levels of estradiol. All postmenopausal women treated with tamoxifen or ERT showed continuous forward end-diastolic flow velocities, while the menopausal women without treatment demonstrated partial forward end-diastolic flow. Resistance index values of non-treated women were invariably higher (mean 0.89, range 0.85-0.91) than in those on tamoxifen (mean 0.79, range 0.54-0.90; p < 0.05), while the lowest RI was obtained in women taking ERT (mean 0.66, range 0.54-0.90; p < 0.05). The plasma concentrations of estradiol in women on ERT were found to be significantly higher than those of the tamoxifen and control groups. The observed data suggest that ERT and tamoxifen modify normal postmenopausal endometrial perfusion. Tamoxifen had a weaker estrogenic effect on the endometrial blood flow resistance, and ERT enhanced endometrial blood perfusion through vasodilatation.

Changes mimicking endometrial neoplasia in postmenopausal, tamoxifen-treated women with breast cancer: a transvaginal Doppler study.

In menopausal patients with breast cancer who receive tamoxifen therapy, transvaginal sonography may show an abnormal endometrium. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of prolonged tamoxifen therapy on endometrial blood flow in postmenopausal patients with breast cancer, and to correlate blood flow characteristics with the sonographic appearance of the endometrium and its pathology. Transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound examinations were performed on 45 postmenopausal women (age range 54-70 years) with breast cancer, who had been treated with tamoxifen for 1-3 years. Twenty women (Group 1) had a thick, irregular, cystic endometrium of > or = 5 mm, and 25 (Group 2) showed a thin endometrium of < 5 mm. The blood flow response was assessed by visualization of arterial waveforms in the endometrial and subendometrial regions with a transvaginal color flow imaging system. Resistance indexes (RI) were calculated for analysis and correlated with endometrial appearance and histology. The mean RI in Group 1 was 0.39 +/- 0.10 (range 0.32-0.54), while the mean RI in Group 2 was 0.79 +/- 0.10 (range 0.54-0.90; p < 0.001). On histology, 12 patients in Group 1 showed atrophic endometria confirmed by hysteroscopy, while in the remaining eight, endometrial polyps were found. In Group 2, all patients had scanty, atrophic endometria. Six of the eight patients with endometrial polyps had an RI of < 0.4 and none had malignant changes. These data suggest that tamoxifen therapy in women with postmenopausal breast cancer induces endometrial, morphological and blood flow changes, mimicking endometrial neoplasia.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Increased amniotic fluid divalent cation concentration in preeclampsia.

Hypocalciuria due to reversibly enhanced tubular calcium reabsorption in preeclampsia has been previously described. As the fetus is exposed in utero to the toxemic environment, its kidney function may be similarly affected. We therefore evaluated the amniotic fluid (AF) concentrations of Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, and Na+ in relation to creatinine in 12 preeclamptic women, 9 pregnant women with chronic hypertension, and 12 control pregnant women. Our data reveal an increased AF Ca2+, Mg2+, and Zn2+ to creatinine ratio in preeclampsia 451 +/- 283; 164 +/- 94; 787 +/- 124 Eq/mol, respectively) as compared with chronic hypertension (256 +/- 141; 94 +/- 46; 504 +/- 124 Eq/mol, respectively), and normal controls (274 +/- 132; 83 +/- 19; 477 +/- 124 Eq/mol, respectively; p < 0.05). Na+ concentration did not vary significantly among the three groups. It is suggested that the higher AF divalent cation concentration in preeclampsia may be due to lower maternal urinary excretion thereby increasing the fetal divalent cation load.

Acceptability and skin reactions to transdermal estrogen replacement therapy in relation to climate.

The acceptability and skin reaction of Estraderm Transdermal Therapeutic Systems as a function of climatic variability were examined in various zones which alter considerably in their temperature and humidity. An open, noncomparative prospective study was carried out in four institutional out-patient menopausal clinics in varying climatic areas. Eighty symptomatic postmenopausal patients without previous estrogen replacement were examined. Estraderm T.T.S. 50 was applied twice weekly in four weekly cycles. Norethisterone-acetate tablets (1 mg), were taken orally for 12 consecutive days. Using a questionnaire, the subjects were asked about the efficacy of the treatment on postmenopausal symptoms, the adhesiveness and tolerability. The results were matched with the meteorological conditions. The duration of the study was 6 months. Acceptability of Estraderm T.T.S. is high (78.7%). Discontinuation of treatment was found in 21.3% of the study group. The main reason for discontinuation is due to skin reactions which occurred in 14 of the 80 patients (17.5%). Meteorological conditions in this study did not influence the rate of skin reactions. No difference in acceptability of the treatment was found in relation to the mean temperature and mean humidity as registered in the dry desert and the humid coastal areas.
