Transsacral usage of a pure island TRAM flap for a large sacral defect: a case report.

A pedicled transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flap was used to reconstruct a large sacral defect retroperitoneally. Muscle and superiorly located skin were elevated on the deep inferior epigastric pedicle. The flap was transposed retroperitoneally from the abdominal wall to the sacral region of the patient. The selection criteria for this particular flap are discussed and compared with other reconstructive choices.

Late results of hypertelorism correction.

The late results of patients who were operated on for the correction of hypertelorism were evaluated. Follow-up ranged between 1 and 11 years (mean, 4.3 years). The mean interorbital distance was 32.9 mm preoperatively and 26.7 mm postoperatively. The significant decrease in the interorbital distance and the absence of serious postoperative complications revealed that craniofacial surgery for the correction of hypertelorism was an effective and reliable procedure.

Facial cleft no. 30.

Midline clefts of the lower lip, mandible, tongue, and neck are rare congenital deformities and are classified as facial cleft no. 30 by Tessier. This is a report of a patient who presented with congenital fibrotic neck cord but no lower lip cleft, which has been the most frequently observed pathognomonic sign of this anomaly. The patient was treated initially for thyroglossal remnant. In the patients who present with a fibrotic cord located at the cervical midline without a lower lip cleft, the diagnosis of facial cleft no. 30 should be kept in mind.
