[Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia or Kimura's disease].

A rare affection of unknown etiology that is benign but frequently recurrent, Kimura's disease involves infiltration of the dermis and hypodermis usually of the face. Documented data exists describing clinical findings and results of histopathology that are analogous but are grouped under other names: angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia, pyogenic pseudogranuloma, atypical pyogenic granuloma. A case followed up for 13 years is reported.

[Thyroid cancer. Prognostic factors].

The outcome of 126 patients with cancer of the thyroid gland was reviewed. Factors affecting prognosis were evaluated and compared with data available in the literature. The two determinant factors were histological type and local extension and metastasis; they correlated closely with age at the time of diagnosis. In this study sex and cervical lymph node involvement were unrelated to survival.

[A case of acquired occlusion of the upper ureter by ampullary hernia of the renal hilus].

The authors report the documented observation of a 59 year old woman admitted to hospital for recent pains in the left flank caused by acute hydronephrosis. Surgical exploration revealed a surprising loss of continuity in the ureter resulting from an ischemic occlusion of the upper ureter. The occlusion was in turn due to compression from a hernia of the renal hilum. The authors conclude with a brief physiopathologic study.

[Bone metastasis revealing a hepatoma. 13 cases].

The authors report a series of 13 cases of bony metastases leading to the discovery of a hepatoma. They were subjects of male sex, average age 64 years. Nine were severe alcoholics. The presenting symptoms were in 7 cases neurological, in four cases an isolated bone tumour, finally, one spontaneous fracture, and one case with pain alone. Severe loss of weight was frequent; in 10 cases out of 13 it was greater than 5 kg. Hepatomegaly was found in 8 cases, but in 3 cases there was no sign suggesting liver disease. In 7 cases out of nine, the metastases were already numerous at the time of diagnosis. The diagnosis of metastases from a hepatoma was made on the bone histology 11 times and from the hepatic histology in 6 cases. The histological of the bone metastasis reproduces very well that of the liver. In four cases there was local secretion of bile, in one case the metastatic liver cells underwent steatonecrosis.

[Indications for exofacial parotidectomy in treatment of mixed tumors (author's transl)].

Systematic total parotidectomy is still recommended by some authors for treatment of mixed tumors of the parotid. This attitude is based on the notion of multifocal involvement. In fact, multifocal involvement seems exceptional Very wide exeresis of the tumor is sufficient for efficient treatment, but the anatomical constitution of the parotid makes topographical division difficult. An attempt for systematisation of exeresis following the topography of the tumor is suggested, mainly for cases where parotidectomy is sufficient.

[Polyarteritis nodosa with ureteric stenosis. Two cases (author's transl)].

In two cases, surgical exploration fully confirmed that ureteric stenosis was related to PAN. There are four cases of this association in the litterature but it is probable that the frequency of such stenosis is underestimated: amongst 75 patients being treated for PAN in our department, only 11 underwent intravenous urography, 10 being abnormal.

[Vascular complications of exostosis. About an exceptional case of true femoral aneurysm (author's transl)].

An exceptional observation of a true femoral aneurysm complicating an exostosis is related. From a review of 60 cases of the literature, the authors study the different vascular complications induced by osteochondroma. In 3 cases out of 4, the vascular injury consist in a false aneurysm; in 1 case out of 5 vascular compression is the point in question; only 4 cases of true aneurysm have been collected. After study of the different clinical aspects of the disease, the authors emphasize the need of surgical treatment associating removal of exostosis and restoring vascular axis. They suggest preventive removal of exostosis situated on a vascular axis to hinder the onset of such accidents.
