Transcriptional activation of regenerative hematopoiesis via microenvironmental sensing.

Transition between activation and quiescence states in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) is tightly governed by cell-intrinsic means and microenvironmental co-adaptation. Although this balance is fundamental for lifelong hematopoiesis and immunity, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly defined. Multimodal analysis divulging differential transcriptional activity between distinct HSPC states indicates the presence of Fli-1 transcription factor binding motif in activated hematopoietic stem cells. We reveal that Fli-1 activity is essential during regenerative hematopoiesis in mice. Fli-1 directs activation programs while priming cellular sensory and output machineries, enabling HSPCs co-adoptability with a stimulated vascular niche through propagation of niche-derived angiocrine Notch1 signaling. Constitutively induced Notch1 signaling is sufficient to recuperate functional hematopoietic stem cells impairments in the absence of Fli-1, without leukemic transformation. Applying FLI-1 transient modified-mRNA transduction into latent adult human mobilized HSPCs, enables their niche-mediated expansion and superior engraftment capacities. Thus, decryption of stem cell activation programs offers valuable insights for immunological regenerative medicine.

[Structural study on the transparency of cross-linked polyester polyurethane].

The polyurethane material with cross-linked structure was synthesized using half pre-polymerization method. IR, UV-Vis, TEM and XRD methods, and physical properties measurements indicate that different moulding temperatures influence the apparent transparence of polyurethane and abrasive performance, and the nature of these changes is related to the conditions of processand chemical reaction which lead to gradual micro-phase separation of the polyurethane molecules with different compositions, resulting in the domain-forming with the size of sub-micro-, micro- and even more than ten micro-meters. Such domains aggregate one another to form particles with different shapes and complicated structures. The increase in the amount and size of these heterogeneous particles, distributed in the medium of transparent polyurethane, is the main cause that brings on an opaque appearance of polyurethane.

Sex differences in intercultural communication apprehension, ethnocentrism, and intercultural willingness to communicate.

Communication predispositions influence interactions between individuals from different cultures. Three such predispositions have been found to affect behavior in intercultural contexts: Apprehension about intercultural communication, ethnocentrism, and intercultural willingness to communicate. This study examined differences between men (n = 130) and women (n = 175) on those three predispositions. The analysis showed that men reported experiencing higher apprehension about intercultural communication, being more ethnocentric than women, and being less willing to communicate interculturally than women. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Age, sex, education, religion, and perception of tattoos.

Tattooing has become more acceptable in the mainstream American culture in recent years. Based on a survey with face-to-face interviews of 335 nontattooed adults randomly selected from a city with a population of 444,000, this study explored the relationship of individuals' demographic variables, attitudes toward religion, and their perceptions of tattoos. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that age and attitude toward religion were associated with individuals' perception of tattoos.
