Involvement of midgastric transverse band in gastric emptying delay of functional dyspepsia.

BACKGROUND: Midgastric transverse band (MTB) was first observed over 100 years ago, after that many researchers worked on the subject postulated its physiologic role and the role in gastrointestinal diseases, but its function remains unclear. With progress of imaging methods, the nature of MTB is unveiling. In this study we investigated the effect of MTB on the gastric emptying delay in functional dyspepsia (FD) and explored the mechanism. METHODS: A total of 60 patients with FD and 65 age- and sex-matched healthy people who served as controls were studied. With (99m)Tc-DTPA labeled semi-solid fat-parched flour served as test meal, gastric emptying was examined in all subjects by using single photon emission computed tomography. Test meal was designated as general (60 g fat-parched flour) or large (80 g fat-parched flour) meal. Stomach was divided into proximal and distal parts by MTB. Half gastric emptying time, areas of different gastric parts, intragastric food distribution and MTB width were tested with in given times. RESULTS: Patients with FD showed a delayed gastric emptying and increased intragastric residue. Global and regional gastric emptying velocity was decreased. The areas of distal stomach and MTB were significantly greater in the FD patients than in the controls. Throughout the whole test period a distal stomach-dominated food distribution was shown. Those who took a large meal had longer half gastric emptying time and greater MTB area than those who took a general meal. CONCLUSIONS: Gastric emptying delay is related to enlarged MTB area. Some dyspeptic symptoms may be induced by abnormal distribution and increased retention of food in distal stomach. MTB, being like atria-ventricular valve that controls blood flow in heart, regulates transport, distribution, and emptying of food in the stomach.

[Synthesis of purpure-18-imide and study on its interaction with bovine serum albumins by fluorescence].

Purpure-18-imide was synthesized based on the porphyrin's special affinity for cancer cells and the antitumor activity of pyrrolidine compound. The binding reaction between purpure-18-imide and bovine serum albumins (BSA) in aqueous was studied by fluorescence and UV-Vis absorption spectra. The research results indicated that the combination reaction of them was a single static quenching process. In aqueous, purpure-18-imide strongly bound BSA with molar ratio of 1:1. The binding constant K0 was 5.386 x 10(5) L x mol(-1). The shortest binding distance (r = 3.54 nm) and energy transfer efficiencies (E = 0.26) between donor (BSA) and acceptor (purpure-18-imide) were obtained by Forster's nonradiative energy transfer mechanism.

[The effect of atorvastatin on the expression of CD55, CD59 in patients with hyperlipidemia].

OBJECTIVE: To study the expressions of CD55 and CD59 in patients with hyperlipidemia and the effects of atorvastatin on it, and to identify the possible influential factors. METHODS: We selected 67 patients with hyperlipidemia, and 24 healthy people matched in terms of age, sex and body weight as control. The expressions of CD55 and CD59 on white blood cells were detected by flow cytometry, and their relationships to blood lipids, complement activation indexes (C(5a), sC(5b-9)), inflammatory factors (high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), TNF-alpha, IL-6 were analyzed. 24 patients with hyperlipidemia were treated with atorvastatin for 8-12 weeks and the expressions of CD55 and CD59 were measured before and after atorvastatin therapy. RESULTS: The mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of CD55 lymphocytes and monocytes were decreased in patients with hyperlipidemia compared with control (2.07 +/- 0.28 vs 2.29 +/- 0.44 and 3.45 +/- 1.02 vs 4.33 +/- 2.32, P < 0.01 and P < 0.05, respectively). CD55 positive lymphocyte MFI was negatively correlated with waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, hsCRP and C(5a). C(5a) was negatively correlated with the MFIs of CD55 positive lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, and positively with TG and diastolic blood pressure. After atorvastatin therapy, the MFIs of CD59 positive lymphocytes, monocytes and granulocytes increased (4.34 +/- 1.16 vs 3.69 +/- 0.76, 4.52 +/- 1.36 vs 3.91 +/- 0.89, 5.67 +/- 1.72 vs 4.56 +/- 1.03, P < 0.05, < 0.05 and < 0.01 respectively), which were not correlated with changes of blood lipids. CONCLUSIONS: The expression of CD55 is down-regulated in hyperlipidemia, which might be influenced by obesity, abdominal distribution of adipose tissue and inflammatory status of hyperlipidemia, but not by blood lipids. The expression of CD55 is related with complement activation; The expression of CD59 is up-regulated after atorvastatin treatment independently of blood lipids.

[Determination of main components in Nd-Fe-B magnetic materials by ICP-AES].

The method for direct determination of neodymium, iron and boron in Nd-Fe-B permanent magnetic materials by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) was studied and suitable analytical lines were selected. The interference from matrix elements in samples was diminished by matrix matching method. The memory effect of the determination of boron by ICP-AES was discussed and was eliminated by way of detecting and subtracting blank value from testing result of samples frequently. The method was applied to the determination of Nd, Fe and B in Nd-Fe-B permanent magnetic materials samples with a precision of RSD 0.62%, 0.56% and 0.90%, respectively.

[Study on the adsorption behaviors of cadmium and lead ions on green tea and black tea by ICP-AES].

The adsorption behaviors of Cd(II) and Pb(II) on green tea and black tea in aqueous solution as well as the influences of time, acidity and temperature on the adsorption have been studied. It was found that Cd(II) and Pb(II) can been adsorbed strongly by green tea and black tea samples. The adsorption effects depend on the pH strongly when pH<4. The recovery of Pb(II) on tea samples is more than that of Cd(II) when pH<6 and it is opposite when pH>6. It is difficult to elute Cd(II) and Pb(II) from tea samples by water at 25 degrees C.

[Study on fluorescence characteristics of pefloxacin-La(III) complex and its application].

The complex of pefloxacin-La3+ was formed in the pH 5.6 HAc-NaAc buffer. Its fluorimetric intensity was 1.5 times that of the pefloxacin, and the excitation and emission peaks of the complex were at 276 and 440 nm, respectively. The new fluorescence method was developed for determining pefloxacin in serum based on the characteristics. The content of pefloxacin in serum was 4.79 mg x L(-1), the RSD and recovery were 6.3% and 95% respectively. The determination range was 0.04-2.0 mg x L(-1) with the detection limit of 2.8 microg x L(-1). The proposed method and UV-Vis photometric method were both applied to determining the pefloxacin in the same capsules with satisfactory results.

[Spectrophotometric method for the determination of water in organic solvents].

In the presence of a small amount of water, the chloranilic acid was disassociated. The absorption peak was bathochromic-shifted and the absorption intensity dramatically enhanced. Based on this fact, a spectrophotometric method was developed for determining water in many kinds of organic solvents. The mechanism and conditions for the determination were studied thoroughly. The water in alcohol samples (white wine, food alcohol and reagent alcohol) was detected with satisfactory results. The method was simple, sensitive and of good reproducibility. The linear range was phi(H2O) 0.02%-10% in alcohol. The method was also used for the determination of water in other organic solvents such as methanol, 2-propanol, acetone, butanone, acetonitrile and tetrahydrofuran, and the calibration curves were obtained, respectively.

[Study on fluorescence characteristics of pefloxacin based on charge transfer reaction].

The charge transfer complex formed between pefloxacin mesylate (PM) as the donor and tetrachlorobenzoquinone (TCQ) as the acceptor has been studied by fluorimetry. Experiment shows that PM reacted with TCQ in methanol with light and the complex was formed. Its fluorimetric intensity was stronger than that of PM and the excitation and emission peaks of the complex were red shifted to 80 nm and 60 nm, respectively. A linear calibration graph was obtained over the PM concentration from 0.05 micromol x L(-1) to 10 micromol x L(-1) with the detection limit of 0.004 micromol x L(-1) of PM. The proposed method and UV-Vis photometric method were both applied to determining the pefloxacin in the same capsules with satisfactory results.
