Effect of ethanol extract of Lepidium meyenii Walp. on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rat.

Maca (Lepidium meyenii Walp.) is a cruciferous plant from the Andes of Peru. The root of Maca is traditionally employed for its supposed properties in aphrodisiacs and improving fertility, it also has been widely used to help alleviate the symptoms of menopause. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of Maca on postmenopausal osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: Sham-operated and ovariectomized groups were fed with equivolume of distilled water, and the remaining ovariectomized groups were orally administrated with ethanol extract of Maca at 0.096 and 0.24 g/kg for 28 weeks. The findings derived from the basis of bone mineral density, biomechanical, biochemical and histopathological parameters indicated that higher dose of ethanol extract of Maca was effective in the prevention of estrogen deficient bone loss.

[Separation of protein and isoflavone in soybean whey by ultrafiltration].

The study on the technical conditions of separating protein and isoflavone in soybean whey by ultrafiltration showed that before ultrafiltration, soybean whey should be pretreated to reduce membrane contamination. The orthogonal experiment of 2 factors and 3 levels indicated that the optimum pretreatment conditions were 5% of CaCl, addition based on the solid substance content in soybean whey, and heating up at 85 degrees C for 15 minutes. Under these conditions, the precipitation rate of whey protein was 49. 8% , while the reservation rate of isoflavone was 90.4%. Single factor experiment showed that the optimum ultrafiltration conditions were poly (ether sulfone) membrane of 10 kDa molecular weight cut-off (MWCO), 51-68 kPa, and 30 degrees C-40 degrees C. Under these conditions, the retention rate of whey protein and isoflavone was 83.9% and 7.6% , respectively.

[Studies on pharmacodynamics of capsule tongluojuanbi].

OBJECTIVE: To study the pharmacological effects of Capsule Tongluojuanbi on antiinflammation and analgesic. METHODS: To apply the rat model of adjuvant arthritis, classical experiment methods of antiinflammation and analgesic. RESULTS: Capsule Tongluojuanbi obviously inhibited primary and secondary plantar swelling of adjuvant arthritis rats, tremendously relieved formaldehyde-induced arthritis in rats, reduced the inflammatory of mouse auricle, reduced the capillary permeability of mouse and diminished twisting reaction of abdominal cavity caused by injection of acetic acid. CONCLUSION: Capsule Tongluojuanbi had obvious effect on antiinflammation and relieving pain.
