Efficacy of transcranial alternating current stimulation for musculoskeletal pain and sleep quality: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique, emerging as a potential therapeutic option for musculoskeletal pain management. OBJECTIVE: To comprehensively evaluate the efficacy and safety of tACS for alleviating pain and improving sleep quality in adults with musculoskeletal pain. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Seven major databases and other sources were searched from inception until April 2026. Two reviewers independently screened studies, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias. A random-effects model was used to pool standardized mean differences (SMDs). The certainty of evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendation Assessment, Development, and Evaluation framework. RESULTS: Six RCTs involving 232 participants were included. Meta-analysis showed that tACS could significantly reduce pain intensity compared to control (SMD = -0.355, 95% CI: -0.625 to -0.084, p = 0.010, I² = 28.7%). However, no significant improvement was found for sleep quality (SMD = 0.004, 95% CI: -0.310-0.317, p = 0.982, I² = 0.0%). Adverse effects were mild and transient, comparable to sham stimulation. The overall certainty of evidence was rated as low for both pain and sleep quality outcomes. CONCLUSION: Current evidence suggests that tACS may be beneficial for musculoskeletal pain; however, the available evidence remains limited and should be interpreted cautiously. The effect of tACS on sleep quality remains uncertain because of the limited number of available studies. Future well-designed RCTs with standardized outcome measures, condition-specific stimulation protocols, and longer follow-up are required to establish the efficacy and long-term safety of tACS.

Multi-ancestry genome-wide and transcriptome-wide association analyses identified new risk loci and genes for inflammatory bowel disease.

To advance genetic understanding of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), we conducted genome-wide association meta-analyses of 63,415 IBD cases of European and East Asian descendants and identified 90 previously unknown risk loci. Integrating multi-ancestry transcriptome-wide association studies (TWAS), cell type-specific TWAS, alternative splicing (AS-WAS), and alternative polyadenylation (APA-WAS) analyses using RNA-seq data from normal colon tissues of 707 European and 364 East Asian individuals, we uncovered 506 high-confidence IBD risk genes, including 384 not previously reported. These genes converge on immune regulation, microbial interaction, and other pathways central to IBD pathogenesis, with over half showing transcriptional dysregulation supported by single-cell and spatial omics analyses. Notably, 46 risk genes are targeted by 225 drugs that have been approved or in Phase II/III trials, including sulfasalazine already used in IBD therapy. Our study findings deepen the understanding of IBD genetics and support the development of precision medicine for its prevention and treatment.

[Preliminary study on treating patellar instability guided by arthroscopy].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the operation method in treating patellar instability guided by arthroscopy and to evaluate its therapeutic effects. METHODS: Thirty-two patients (34 knees) with patellar instability including 2 patellar tilt (2 knees), 26 (27 knees) patellar subluxation, and 4 (5 knees) patellar dislocation, diagnosed by clinical and arthroscopical standard, were treated with anterior transfer of the gracilis or medial transfer of the tibial tuberosity based on the lateral retinacular release and medial tightening. RESULTS: Twenty-eight patients were followed up for 5-87 (mean 36.6) months. The excellence rates was 92.8%. CONCLUSION: The patellofemoral alignment can be seen directly and dynamically under the arthroscopy. The combinational treatment including anterior transfer of the gracilis in repairing patellar instability can avoid the recurrence effectively and get satisfactory results.

[Photocatalytic degradation of hexafluorobenzene by tungstophosphoric acid].

We verified that C6F6, a typical perfluorine compound, could be photocatalytic degraded by H3PW12O40. The defluorination of C6F6 was determined as a function of irradiation time, pH, initial concentration of H3PW12O40, and additives as well. The defluorination of C6F6 increased with the irradiation time. Acid condition, especially pH = 1.0 is preferred. 3 mL solution of 2.0 x 10(-4) mol/L C6F6 and 5.0 x 10(-6) mol/L H3PW12O40 was irradiated for 20 min and the defluorination of C6F6 was equal to 208.1%. O2, KMnO4 and K2S2O8 added in the solution were able to increase the defluorination of C6F6 via oxidating [PW12O40](4-). The defluorination of C6F6 would decline in the presence of alcohol and aromatic compounds.

High-throughput functional analysis of the Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 genome.

Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 was the first cyanobacterial strain to be reliably transformed by exogenously added DNA and has become the model organism for cyanobacterial circadian rhythms. With a small genome (2.7 Mb) and well-developed genetic tools, PCC 7942 provides an exceptional opportunity to elucidate the circadian mechanism through genetics. We describe a project to create mutations in every locus of the genome, both to assay each locus for its potential contribution to the circadian clock and to archive data for the cyanobacterial community. Cosmid clones that carry inserts of PCC 7942 DNA are saturated with transposon insertions in vitro to provide sequencing templates and substrates for mutagenesis of the PCC 7942 genome via homologous recombination. We have mutagenized 53% of the chromosome from 50 chromosome-bearing cosmids and identified the positions of insertions in 31 of those cosmids and the 46 kb plasmid, pANL. PCC 7942 mutants defective for 490 different genes have been screened for circadian phenotypes. Mutagenesis of three apparently essential loci, including clpPIIclpX, resulted in circadian phenotypes. We developed an effective antisense suppression method to further the analysis of essential genes. When completed, the set of comprehensive mutations will provide the community with a unique resource whose impact will extend beyond circadian research.

[Clinical use of three-dimensional surface reconstruction of spiral CT for impacted teeth in orthodontics].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of three-dimensional surface reconstruction of spiral CT-shaded surface display (SSD) to examine the impacted teeth before orthodontic treatment. METHODS: Three-dimensional surface reconstruction of spiral CT and shaded surface display (SSD) was applied to twenty patients whose impacted teeth couldn't be judged clearly through the panorama and occlusal films. RESULTS: Three-dimensional surface reconstruction of spiral CT and SSD could clearly demonstrate the dental surface image including crown, root neck and root bifurcation in three-dimensional way, labial or palatal location, eruption orientation and relation with dentition. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the three-dimensional surface reconstruction is an accurate and effective method to examine impacted teeth before orthodontic treatment.

[Anterior transfer of the gracilis in repairing of recurrent dislocation and subluxation of the patella].

OBJECTIVE: To introduce anterior transfer of the gracilis in the treatment of recurrent subluxation and dislocation of the patella, and evaluate its effects. METHODS: Six patients with recurrent subluxation of the patella and 2 patients with postoperative recurrence of dislocation of the patella were treated with anterior transfer of the gracilis based on the lateral retinacular release and medial tightening. The efficacy was reviewed. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time was 22.4 months. No recurrence of subluxation of the kneecap occurred, and 7 cases had excellent results. CONCLUSION: Anterior transfer of the graciclis in repairing recurrent subluxation of the patella is easy to perform, and can effectively avoid the recurrence of subluxation of the patella.
