Reliability and validity of aggressive driving measures in China.

The present research was designed to examine the psychometric properties of Chinese versions of the Self Report Driver Behavior Aggression and Assertiveness subscales, the Driving Vengeance Questionnaire, and the Violent Driving Questionnaire. Study 1 found that the all scales demonstrated good internal consistency, with alphas ranging from .76 to .87 and that assertive driving was related to demerit points received over the past 12 months while driver aggression and violence were linked to collisions over the past 12 months. Study 2 found that the scales exhibited reasonable test-retest reliability, with correlations ranging from .82 to .89. Finally, Study 3 showed that each scale was predicted by other dangerous driving attitudes and behaviors, similar to the original versions. The consistency between the translated and original scales, the implications for use in a Chinese sample, and the uniformity of actions in the traffic environment across cultures are discussed.

[Study on GSTs activity in trinitrotoluene cataract].

OBJECTIVE: To direct the relationship between the activity of glutathione S-transferases(GSTs) and susceptibility to trinitrotoluene cataract (TC). METHODS: KMSL method was used to test the activity of GSTs in 154 cases of TC(group A), 41 cases of non-trinitrotolune cataract (group B), and 40 normal subjects (group B). RESULTS: The activity of GSTs in group TC was significantly lower than that in the two control groups (P < 0.01). The differences in GSTs activity were highly significant between the four stages of TC (P < 0.01), in which the sequence of GSTs activity levels from high to low was the stage of observation, stage I, stage II, and stage III. Compared to the persons with gst mu gene, the persons without gst mu gene had significantly lower GSTs activity (P < 0.01). It was found that the GSTs activity of the persons without gst mu gene in TC group was significantly lower than that of the persons without gst mu gene in the two control groups (P < 0.01), but the differences in GSTs activity between the persons with gst mu gene among the three groups were not significant (P > 0.05). The most noticeable correlation was observed between GSTs activity gst mu gene deletion (r = 0.702, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: TC and its stages are closely correlated with the activity of GSTs.

[Study on the relationship between glutathione S transferase mu gene deletion and leukemia in workers exposed to benzene].

OBJECTIVE: To study the relationship between glutathione S transferase M1(GST mu) gene deletion and leukemia in workers exposed to benzene. METHODS: A matched population-based case-control survey with multivariate Logistic regression analysis was conducted in this study. RESULTS: In the population of 34 patients and their matched controls, the absence of the GST mu genotype conferred odds ratio of 3.6. It suggested that GST mu was an important determinant of heterogeneity in individual susceptibility to leukemia associated with exposure to benzene. The single-variance analysis indicated that these markedly significant factors were GST mu gene deletion, GST mu isoenzyme activity, duration of exposure, GST isoenzyme activity, smoking quantity and average concentration of benzene in workshop air. The multivariate analysis indicated that these markedly significant factors were GST mu gene deletion, duration of exposure to benzene and GST mu isoenzyme activity. CONCLUSION: GST mu gene deletion may be associated with increased risk of leukemia in workers exposed to benzene and is one of genetically determined factors.
