[Clinical observation on radiofrequency ablation treatment in perennial allergic rhinitis].

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of radiofrequency ablation on perennial allergic rhinitis. METHOD: Thirty-five cases of perennial allergic rhinitis undergone the treatment in radiofrequency ablation were study. RESULT: All patients were followed more than 6 months, total effective rate is 94.3% (33/35). Among the total, excellence is 85.7% (30/35). CONCLUSION: The radiofrequency ablation is a simple and safe instrument to treat perennial allergic rhinitis.

[Analysis of bacterial culture and C. pneumoniae DNA detection of chronic pharyngitis].

OBJECTIVE: To research the pathogenic microorganism characters of chronic pharyngitis. METHOD: Samples taken from pharyngeal swab from patient with chronic pharyngitis were routinely cultured; mp-DNA were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). RESULT: Of all the cases, 5 patients were DNA(+), among which 3 patients got obvious effect after 2 weeks treatment. The bacterial abnormally was present in 15 patients (31.5%), among which 6 patients got obvious effect and 2 patients got no effect after 2 weeks treatment. CONCLUSION: The pathogenic abnormally may be present in some patients with chronic pharyngitis, most of which appeared to be an internal disorder of the proper microflores. C. pneumoniae may be an aetiological agent for chronic pharyngitis. An appropriate antimicrobial treatment should be considered in some cases.

[Isolated sphenoid sinus disease (an analysis of 18 cases)].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnosis and reasonable treatment for the disease of isolated sphenoid sinus. METHOD: Eighteen cases with disease of isolated sphenoid sinus who undergone endoscopic sinus surgery were studied. RESULT: Fifteen cases with sphenoid sinusitis(including 2 cases with acute inflammation, 3 cases with chronic inflammation, 8 cases with cyst, 2 cases with mycosis), 3 cases with malignant tumor. 18 cases were cured by nasal endoscopy surgery without complication. CONCLUSION: Headache is the optima to occurrence of manifestation in patients with isolated sphenoid sinus disease. Besides, there are other symptoms including the lesion of eyesight, bloody nasal discharge and cranial nerve paralysis. CT scan, MRI and nasal endoscopy provide effective method for its diagnosis. In a word, nasal endoscopy surgery is a safe and convenient for the disease of isolated sphenoid sinus.

[Revision endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic sinusitis and polyps].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate common reasons for revision endoscopic sinus surgery (RESS) and evaluate the effect of RESS. METHODS: Before the revision surgery 114 patients were examined by CT scans and nasal endoscopy, after surgery all the patients were followed up for more than 2 years. RESULTS: There were 16 cases of recurrence of polyps, 98 cases of recurrence of sinusitis. Among 114 cases there were 18 cases of anterior ethmoid sinus disease, 2 frontal recess stenosis, 31 anterior ethmoid sinuse disease with maxillary ostium obstruction, 6 middle turbinate adhesion, 18 posterior ethmoid sinus disease, 36 posterior ethmoid sinus disease with sphenoid sinus disease, 3 isolated sphenoid sinusitis. There were 15 cases with septal deviation. 99 cases were successful and 15 unsatisfied. CONCLUSION: Sinus disease that was not completely resected during the original surgical procedure due to the surgeon's less experience was the most common reason for the RESS, another reason was recurrent polyposis. The results were very rewarding except nasal polyposis.
