[Investigation of the effect of functional treatment in skeletal Class III cases on the profile facial esthetics].

In this study, effects of chin-cap therapy on profile facial esthetics were investigated. 30 patients indicating skeletal and dental Cl III anomalies were divided into two groups. The first group, including 21 patients with the average age of 11 was treated by chin-cap therapy, average treatment time being 0.7 years. This group involved 10 females and 11 males. The second group involved 9 persons, 5 females and 4 males, with the average age of 9.7, average control period being 2 years. The investigation was carried out on the 60 lateral cephalometric films taken from both groups. 2 angular and 9 soft tissue cephalometric measurements were made on each film. The comparisons between the groups indicated that the treatment affected the soft tissue measurements positively.

[Sectional arches in Begg technique].

The aim of this article is to imply that sectional arches which are frequently used in Edgewise technique whereas not in Begg Technique, can also be used in Begg technique. Sectional arches are mostly used in distalisation of canins. Besides, according to the tooth extracted, e.g. premolars 1, 2 it is also possible to retract the teeth by using sectional arches. In Begg technique, by means of elastics attached to helix on the mesial side of the canins, it is not possible to give the canins a unique movement, instead all of the anterior tooth from canin to canin are extracted. Therefore, this condition in this article, the feasibility of sectional arches in Begg technique has been discussed together with its advantages.

[Evaluation of the changes occurring in the vertical direction of the face in cases treated with activator + occipital headgear combination].

The aim of this study was to evaluate the vertical skeletal and dentoalveolar changes in the Class II Division 1 cases treated with the activator + occipital headgear combination. The present study was performed on 40 subjects and comprised 20 subjects who had undergone activator + occipital headgear therapy and 20 control subjects who had received no orthodontic treatment. 15 linear and angular measurements were performed on 80 lateral cephalometric films of 40 subjects. By comparing the treatment and control groups, the changes related to growth was eliminated and following results were obtained: SNA and ANB angles were reduced in treatment group (p less than 0.01) and the difference between treatment and control groups were statistically significant (p less than 0.01). Jarabak ratio did not show any change in the treatment group but decreased in the control group (p less than 0.05) and the difference between treatment and control groups was statistically significant (p less than 0.05). The growth of lower anterior alveolar height was inhibited by treatment when compared to control group (p less than 0.01).

[Investigation of the functional treatment effects of the skeletal and dental Class III anomalies on the skeletal region].

This study was carried out on two groups with skeletal and dental Class III malocclusion. There were 21 patients in the first group (10 females and 11 males) on which the chin-cap treatment was performed and average age of these was 11 years and mean treatment period was 0.7 years. The second group which consisted of 9 individuals was the control group and none of them had any orthodontic treatment. The control group consisted of 5 females and 4 males individuals and average age was 9.7 years and mean control period was 2 years. This investigation was performed on 60 cephalometric films obtained from both groups. 6 angular, 5 dimensional total 11 skeletal cephalometric measurements were performed on these films. When these groups were compared according to these measurements it was found that there was a decrease in SNB, SN/ANS-PNS angles also a decrease was detected in distances between Pg-Ramus Inferior tangent point, Pg-Ramus Superior tangent point, Cd-Pg points. On the other hand there was an increase in ANB angle and Wits appraisal which is the dimensional expression of ANB angle.

[Evaluation of the occlusal plane in dentulous and edentulous subjects].

The occlusal plane is an important factor in stability and esthetic of dentures. The location of the occlusal plane in complete dentures is a controversial subject. The occlusal plane in complete denture has often been oriented anteriorly to fulfill esthetic and posteriorly to Camper's line. However, recently the methods used for locating the occlusal plane appear to be less limiting. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the different concepts of occlusal plane. A roentgenographic cephalometric investigation was conducted to compare the position of the occlusal plane of the artifical teeth with that of the natural teeth which existed before the remaining teeth were extracted.
