This study was designed to assess the duration of androgen's effects on male sexuality to recommend an optimal therapeutic regime. Nine young men with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism were repeatedly tested for 9 weeks after an i.m. dose of a Depo-testosterone preparation. Testing included self-rating of sexuality and recording of penile tumescence during sleep and during pornographic film, slides, and self-induced fantasy. Although serum testosterone decreased to subnormal levels by the fourth week, erectile strength, according to self-report, became subnormal by the eighth week, whereas other reported parameters remained unchanged. Erectile response to erotic stimulations remained unchanged for the entire 9 weeks. Nocturnal erections were supranormal for the first 2-4 weeks and normalized thereafter. Testosterone's effect on male sexuality seems to persist beyond the period of normal serum testosterone. Treatment can, therefore, be given bimonthly.

In the light of the available evidence, this paper reviews two current controversial issues in the area of female sexuality: the "G spot" and "female ejaculation." It is concluded that evidence in support of the "G spot"--defined as a discrete anatomical structure located on the anterior vaginal wall, which swells upon being tactilely stimulated--is inconclusive, and, in the event of its existence, no evidence has been produced linking it to Skene's glands. However, it seems reasonable to accept that women possess a zone of tactile erotic sensitivity on the anterior vaginal wall, which in many of them may extend to the entire anterior wall and to the posterior vaginal wall. It also seems that some women emit a fluid through the urethra at orgasm, although its true nature and anatomical origin are still unclear.
We studied vaginal erotic sensitivity by vaginal sexological examinations as part of the evaluation and treatment process of couples complaining of female coital anorgasmia but readily orgasmic at female self--or partner-performed external genital stimulation. The existence on the anterior vaginal wall of an anatomically clearly definable erotically triggering entity, termed "The G Spot", was refuted by our findings. The entire anterior vaginal wall, including the deeper situated urinary bladder, periurethral tissues and Halban's fascia, rather than one specific spot, were found to be erotically sensitive in most of the women examined, and 64% of them learned how to reach orgasm by direct specific digital and/or coital stimulation of this area. All other parts of the vagina had poor erotic sensitivity. This supports our conceptualization of a 'clitoral/vaginal sensory arm of orgasmic reflex' including the clitoris, the entire anterior vaginal wall as well as the deeper situated tissues. Instead of looking for a 'vaginal (coital) orgasm' distinctly different from a 'clitoral orgasm', this concept speaks towards a 'genital orgasm' potentially achievable by separate or, most effectively, combined stimulation of those different trigger components of the genital sensory arm of the orgasmic reflex. The format and technique of the vaginal sexological examination are described, and its possible applications and limitations are discussed.

The authors present a case of severe poisoning as a result of ingestion of a considerable amount of Carbon Tetrachloride, where toxic hepatitis and hepato-nephritis, neurological occurrences and sexual disturbances appeared. There was a considerable decline of the libido, complete impotence during several months. The accident occurred owing the ignorance of the instructions, unlabelled toxic material as such and not keeping it in a safe place. The Hamsin - a hot and dry wind - played an important part in the quick and severe appearance of the poisoning. The sexual disturbances which did not exist before the poisoning, appeared immediately after the intoxication. They were apparently connected with the injury of the liver cells; they are similar to those induced under the influence of other toxic materials. The general condition, including the sexual disturbances improved, and patient returned to his normal working condition after a period of nine months.
This study investigated the hypothesis that individuals with androgynous personalities would be more competent sexually than individuals with sex-typed personalities. Scores on the Bem Sex-Role Inventory were compared for a patient group and a control group. The data revealed a higher percentage of androgynous subjects in the control group than in the patient group. Even when only one spouse was androgynous, the chances of sexual competence within the couple increased. In addition, there was more sex typing among the longer married patient couples and more stereotyped femininity in both men and women in the patient group. The results were taken to support the view that the androgynous person's flexibility and adaptability is conducive to a satisfactory sexual relationship. Some cultural differences between Israeli and American samples were noted. Findings contradicted the cultural stereotypes of the macho Israeli male and the nonfeminine Israeli woman.
A multidisciplinary team approach was used to identify different correlates of sexual inadequacy, by comparing sexually dysfunctional and adequately functioning couples. Early familial disruption, traditional/religious upbringing and current religiosity of the male patient, prejudices concerning normal sex behavior, sexual ignorance, communication problems, and myths resulted in rigid stereotyped sexual behavior for both partners in our dysfunctional, patient group. These behaviors are characterized by "gender asymmetry" in all aspects of sexual activity. Contrary to previous reports, it was found that men are very concerned with partner satisfaction and are the primary initiators for therapy.
Sex therapists traditionally speak of the couple's relationship as "the patient." However, existing diagnostic classifications prove to be random lists of dysfunctions and are unrelated to the dyad as a couple. Each partner is classified independently and out of context of the dyad on the basis of lists of male/female dysfunctions. A merging of gynecosexological and behavioral psychosexological approaches has led us to develop a new holistic classification--and, what we believe to be, a more rational one--of sexual dysfunctions. It is based on a ranking of the disorders according to the seriousness of the disruption to the dyad's functioning as a couple. The sexual dysfunctions are classified according to the degree of stress activated within the couple's relationship, thus enabling the therapist, from the beginning, to develop rapport and increased motivation by the clients, which will positively affect the therapeutic outcome, even in the so-called serious cases.

It is now general professional consensus that to develop a good human sexuality curriculum it is mandatory to first study the future target population, Such a study was done on a national basis at the four medical schools in Israel, concentrating on the senior students. The data on background, sexual experience, knowledge, and attitudes were analyzed and compared to findings of similar studies in other countries. This article reviews the results on background and sexual experience, also trying to analyze logical hypotheses of possible links between variables. Most Israeli senior medical students are unmarried Jewish Ashkenasi males, with a rather small proportion of females, Sephardic-originated Jews, Moslems, and Christians. Their sex education during childhood originated mostly from peers and literature, but was almost completely lacking at school. Masturbation started early, being more frequent for males. The majority of both sexes had dated, had gone steady, and had had sexual intercourse frequently with at least two partners. Only 5.4% of males had never experienced coitus. Intercourse with prostitutes was infrequent. The students' background has direct influence on their early sexual knowledge and experience. This in turn influences self-ratings on sexual matters. This is further correlated with sexual behavior.
The myth that handicapped people have no sexual needs has been recently dispelled. Professional concern is now present for their sexual rehabilitation, ideally starting shortly after injury, surgery or disease and continuing in specialized clinics for sexual counseling and therapy. The patients are referred either in couples or as singles, married or non-married. Therapy is similar to that for able-bodied individuals: the couple is seen together, then separately and finally together again for detailed discussion. Both the disabled and his or her partner learn that when open, honest communication is possible and sexual potential is present, a mutually rewarding sexual relationship can be obtained and developed.
