[Senior migrants in Bremen: demographic structure, social condition and health status].

In the coming years, the number of migrants of 60 and older will rise considerably in Germany. There are indications that their health problems are more severe than those of the native population, and that much can be done to supplement health care offers for them. The authors suggest to put this statement on a more objective basis and bridge the gaps of empirical research, focussing both on health relevant aspects of the general situation of senior migrants (differences in the cultural background, migration biography, accommodation, integration/segregation etc.) and on the health status itself. At the same time preconditions and possibilities of an intercultural opening of care structures and culture-sensitive nursing should be utilised and further developed.

Serum protein polymorphisms (HP, TF, GC and PI) in four Iranian population samples.

A total of 960 individuals from four Iranian population samples (Tabriz, Tehran, Yazd, Mashhad) was typed for HP and for TF, GC and PI subtype polymorphism. Statistically significant intergroup heterogeneity in the distribution of allele frequencies was found only in the HP polymorphism. Comparisons with other Iranian populations suggest considerable ethnic differences with regard to the TF and GC subtype polymorphisms. Some rare alleles were observed in all four samples (Tabriz: GC*1C1; Tehran: PI*S: Yazd: PI*S; Mashhad: PI*Z).

[The Bremen primary examination program for refugees (I)].

In April 1993, the Bremen State Office of Public Health initiated a programme based on the requirements of political asylum legislation while answering the need of medical care for refugees in the first phase of their stay. Newly arriving asylum seekers channelled into legally obligatory "initial accommodation" are offered to avail themselves of a regular medical consultation in their accommodation facility. Thus, they have the opportunity to resort to medical examination, a doctor's advice, and, if need be, initial treatment.
