Soluble interleukin-2 receptor in serum of patients with esophageal carcinoma.

We measured serum levels of sIL-2R in 28 patients with squamous cell esophageal carcinoma and in 12 controls. Sera for presence of sIL-2R were examined using DAKO Interleukin-2-receptor (CD25) ELISA. The samples were analyzed for CEA and SCC by using IMx System (Abbot). The mean values of sIL-2R in esophageal carcinoma group were significantly increased in comparison with control group. Our results suggest that sIL-2R may be useful in monitoring and prognosis estimation of disease in esophageal carcinoma and could be a valuable addition to the current spectrum of cancer markers.

Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) activity in peripheral blood in patients with esophageal carcinoma.

The aim of this study was to evaluate some of the PMN functions connected with phagocytosis in 34 patients with esophageal carcinoma, confronted with a clinical progression of the neoplastic disease, according to TNM classification. The level of the neoplastic markers--SCC and CEA antigens were determined also. In the examined group of patients significant decrease in the mean values of FcR and CR receptors expression, migration, chemotaxis and phagocytosis of PMN were observed. No correlation was found between the percentage cells with FcR and CR and phagocytosis and clinical progression of neoplasma. Significant differences were in mean values of chemotaxis and migration in group with IV stage TNM. There was no found correlation between granulocytic tests and levels of SCC and CEA.

Adult

Complement levels of C4, C3C, factor B, and C1 inactivator in peripheral and retroplacental blood of parturient women with EPH gestosis.

The complement levels were determined in 54 parturient women with EPH gestosis, in 32 normal parturient women and in 24 normal non pregnant women. Complement components: C4, C3c, factor B /Bf/ and C1 inactivator /C1 INA/ were measured by radial immunodiffusion. Peripheral and retroplacental blood were examined. Concentrations of C4, C3c, Bf in peripheral blood of both groups of parturient women were significantly higher than in normal non pregnant women. Peripheral blood of parturient women with EPH gestosis contained significantly higher concentrations of C3c than in normal parturient women. Complement Bf levels of normal parturient women were lower in the retroplacental blood than in the peripheral. The levels of C4 were significantly decreased and C3c increased in the retroplacental blood of parturient women with EPH gestosis when results were compared with retroplacental blood of normal parturient women. Results of present study suggest that complement activation could contribute to the pathogenesis of EPH gestosis.

Complement C1 Inactivator Proteins

[Circulating immune complexes in patients with diabetes type I and II].

The relation between the concentration of immunocomplexes and the number of granulocytes having the surface receptors for Fc immunoglobulin fragment and for C3 component of complement was studied in diabetic patients. The concentration of immunocomplexes was determined with the precipitation method of Swierczyńska or with the method of rosette blocking according to Pazdur et al. The expression of the granulocytic receptors was evaluated by using the modified rosette EA and EAC method according to Buesher. An increase in the concentration of immunocomplexes and a decrease in the percentage of granulocytes having the surface receptors for Fc fragment and C3 protein have been observed in patients with type I and type II diabetes. No correlation was found between the concentration of immunocomplexes and the number of cells with receptors for Fc immunoglobulin fragment and C3 component of complement.

[Behavior of granulocytic receptors for Fc IgG fragment and C3 component of complement in patients with diabetes].

The count of peripheral neutrophils having the superficial receptors for Fc IgG fragment (FcR) and C3 component of the complement (CR) was determined in diabetic patients by using the rosette tests EA and EAC according to the modified Buescher method. A significantly lower percentage of neutrophils with FcR and CR receptors was found in patients with both insulin-dependent and noninsulin-dependent diabetes. The lowest values were found in noncompensated diabetes; in compensated diabetes they were higher but still significantly lower than in the controls. The difference was significant in both tests used. The results obtained suggest that the observed fall in the percentage of neutrophils with FcR and CR receptors is caused by metabolic disturbances associated with diabetes.

Complement C3c

[Evaluation of the NBT test by cytochemical and spectrophotometric methods].

Reduction of NBT by polymorphonuclear neutrophils was determined with two methods techniques: cytochemical according to Park and spectrophotometrical according to Raman and Poland. 40 tests in healthy men were done. Statistical significance correlation was observed between results obtained using these two techniques. The authors suggest that spectrophotometric technique is easier, more objective and requires less blood for testing.

Adult

[Serum immunoglobulins and various components of complement in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus].

Serum concentrations of immunoglobulin (Ig) A, M, G and complement components C3, C4, Bf were investigated in 50 patients with insulin--dependent, non--insulin dependent diabetes of 60 patient and control healthy subjects. The mean level of IgA was lower and IgM and IgG higher in both types of diabetic patients. But the low level of IgG was observed in 11% patients with insulin dependent diabetes. It was not significant difference in concentrations of complement components proteins in both diabetic groups and control subjects. Insulin dependent diabetic patients with microangiopathic complications had lower level of serum C4, but this difference was not statistically significant.
