[Levels of thyroid hormones during pregnancy and in the perinatal period. II. Levels of iodothyronine in blood serum during cesarean section and puerperium].

Analysis of T4, T3 and rT3 concentration in blood serum of 27 women during and after caesarean section was performed. Estimation of hormones using RIA was done. Changes of levels of analysed hormones differed from this found during normal delivery. Periferral conversion of T4 is discussed as a potential source of different levels of T3 and rT3.

[Phagocytosis and bactericidal capacity of polymorphonuclear neutrophils in neonates].

Phagocytosis and bactericidal capacity of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) obtained from umbilical venous blood was estimated in 30 neonates and their mothers by the use of fluorochrome microassay of Pantazis and Kniker. Phagocytosis of Staphylococcus was similar in both groups and controls, while intracellular bacteria killing was significantly impaired in PMN obtained from the neonates. These results may indicate that increased susceptibility to infection observed in neonates may be partly caused by PMN function impairment.

[Delivery in adolescence].

We analysed structure of age within 16,602 deliveries between 1947 and 1977 and data collected from 17,056 deliveries between 1989 and 1992 in Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Poznań. Percent of women under age 18 deliveries increased from 0.58% in 1947 to 1.3% in the last years. We observed a significant difference in group of teenage mothers: the higher risk of prematurity, lower average birth weight of neonates, lower frequency of cesarean section and higher frequency of surgical assisted vaginal deliveries. There was no significant differences in the frequency of birth weight under 2500 g.

[Vaginal delivery after previous cesarean section].

Data concerning frequency of cesarean section as well as frequency of vaginal delivery after cesarean section in Poznań region in years 1990-1991 were presented. During last years we observed significant increase of spontaneous deliveries after cesarean section. The indications for the previous cesarean section and the outcome of the present pregnancy are discussed.

[Application of computer systems in perinatology. II. Organization of computer systems in intensive care of the fetus and newborn].

The main computer systems used in perinatal medicine are described, with particular reference to the systems of analysis of perinatal data, analysis of cardiotocogram, obstetric ultrasonogram, assessment of the heart function of the newborn, records of respiratory activity in newborns, and use of computers in parenteral alimentation of newborns.
