[Serum prolactin concentration in children with celiac disease].

The study encompassed 62 children aged 4-15 years: 51 with a confirmed diagnosis of celiac disease and 11 suspected of having celiac disease (during diagnostic studies). The control group included 30 healthy children aged 4-15 years. Serum prolactin concentration was measured using radioimmunoassay (RIA) kits. Serum prolactin concentrations were significantly higher in children with celiac disease not following a gluten-free diet than in the control group. Children with serious mucosal lesions revealed by small bowel mucosal biopsies had the highest serum prolactin concentrations. Of these children, 36% gad values higher than 15 ng/ml. Differences between children with celiac disease complying with a gluten-free diet and the control group were not significant.

[Health status of the workers of a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) processing plant. III. State of the respiratory tract, immunoglobulins and NBT test].

255 workers processing polyvinyl chloride were examined. All of them underwent spirometric and polycardiographic tests and determination of phagocytic activity of granulocytes, the level of serum albumins and its fractions, and the level of immunoglobulins--IgA, IgG and IgM. The results were compared with the data from healthy non-exposed subjects. It was found that hazards resulting from polyvinyl chloride processing induce slight disturbances in lungs ventilating capacity and inhibit phagocytic activity of granulocytes.

Serum lipid and lipoprotein profile in children with malabsorption: an approach to the recognition of atherosclerosis risk factors.

Serum lipoproteins, triglyceride, total cholesterol as well as HDL, LDL and VLDL-cholesterol were studied in 35 children, actually well nourished, who as infants suffered from malabsorption syndrome with severe malnutrition. If at the active stage of malabsorption some risk factors of atherosclerosis had been found, at the stage of realimentation no disturbances were encountered. The results did not significantly differ from those of the control group.
