Thickness of the middle trunk of the brachial plexus, size of cross-section area of its fascicles, number of fascicles and size of index of the fascicle's area has been examined bilaterally on bodies of 34 males and 34 females who died at the age between the 11th and 86th year of life. The middle trunk was present in all the cases and it always made continuation of the root of the brachial plexus coming from C7. The internal structure of the middle trunk is characterized by a great individual variability and asymmetry. The examined features of the middle trunk underwent big changes in postnatal life, mostly up to 22nd year of life. The thickness of the trunk increased 3.5 times, the size of the cross-section area of fascicles--3.2 times, and the number of fascicles by 59%, but the index of fascicle's area decreased by over 11%. The participation of fascicles of different thickness in the structure of the trunk also changed.

The roots of the brachial plexus have been examined bilaterally on the bodies of 69 men. Three types of plexus were distinguished. In type I, covering 26.1% of the cases, the plexus was formed by the roots C4-Th1. Type II included 73.2% of plexus examined and it was composed by the roots C5-Th1. In type III, represented by 0.7% of the cases, the plexus was made by roots C5-Th2. In between the roots regularly taking part in the formation of the brachial plexus the thinnest was Th1 -in 52.2%, C5-in 47.8%, and the thickest was C7-in 43.5%, C8-in 37.0%, C6-in 18.1%, C5 -in 1.4% of the cases. The internal structure of the brachial plexus roots was characterized by a great individual variability and asymmetry. The roots differed between one another in thickness, number of fascicles, size of their cross-section area and index of the fascicle's area. The studied features underwent big changes during postnatal life, especially up to the 22nd year of life.

The thickness of terminal divisions of the inferior trunk, size of cross-section area of fascicles, number of fascicles and index of the fascicle's area have been examined bilaterally on the bodies of 69 men. The anterior division compared with the posterior division was 4.9 times thicker, the size of its cross-section area of fascicles was 4.1 times greater than in the posterior one. The index of fascicle's area was smaller by 16.3% in the anterior than in posterior division. The fascicles with the cross-section area up to 0.500 sq mm occurred more often in the anterior than in posterior division, and the fascicles with the cross-section area greater than 0.5 sq mm occurred more often in the posterior one than in the anterior division. The studied features of the terminal parts of the inferior trunk, apart from the number of fascicles, underwent big changes during postnatal life, especially up to the 22nd year of life.

The study was carried out on 137 trunks taken from the cadevers of 35 males and 34 females who died between the age of 11 days and 86 years. A great individual variability and asymmetry regarding the thickness of the inferior trunk, number of fascicles, size of their cross-section area and the index of the fascicle's area was shown. The studied features of the trunk, apart from the number of fascicles, underwent big changes in postnatal life, especially between the age of 1 and 14 years.

576 women have been examined towards breast lesions since 1987. Ultrasonography, mammography and fine needle biopsy were done in 353 patients. 63 women were advise to undergo surgery. The rest women were followed-up every 3-4 month. Combined methods comprising ultrasonography, mammography and fine needle biopsy were consistent with the histological assessment of the material taken during the surgery.
Mammography and sonography were done in 479 women. In mammography cysts were suspected in 10 cases, in 20 cases solid lumps and in 49 cases no changes were detected. In sonography in 7 cases cysts were found in 23 solid lumps, in 49 no changes were detected. It was proved that sonography is much more accurate in detecting cysts than mammography.
The studies were carried out bilaterally on bodies of 51 males and 52 females who died at the age from 1 day to 87 years. There was shown a great individual variability and asymmetry regarding both the thickness of the lateral root of the median nerve, the number of fascicles, the size of the cross-section area of fascicles and the index of the fascicles area.

The thickness of the root of the brachial plexus coming from C7, the number of its fascicles, the size and the index of their cross-section area have been examined bilaterally on the bodies of 69 dead men of both sexes. During the postnatal life there increased: thickness of the root--over 3.4 times, the cross-section area of root's fascicles--2.9 times, the number of fascicles--by about 60%. In the same time the index of fascicles cross-section area decreased over 18%. The above changes took place mostly up to 22nd year of life.
