[The correlations of the specific and nonspecific characteristics of the mental activities in patients with brain tumors].

The data on long-term neuropsychological study of patients with local brain damage are analyzed. A correlation between specific and dynamic troubles of mental activity was studied before and after neurosurgery. There is a dependence of the defects severity and stability on tumor location and lateralization, on patients' age, sex and education, tumor type, postoperative complications, etc. The groups of risk which need special attention of physicians and rehabilitators are identified.

[Magnetic resonance tomography of the brain in Parkinson's disease].

Because cerebral atrophy and white substance of the cerebral hemispheres became typical findings at NMR-tomography of the brain in Parkinson's disease, the authors initiated a study to quantify the observed defects. A combination of neurological, neuropsychological and NMR-tomography methods with addition of formalized scales has been utilized. The severity of cerebral atrophy and that of neurological and psychic disorders were related. Internal atrophy was more frequently observed in older patients, the external one was more characteristic for patients with systemic atherosclerosis. Multiple focal lesions of the white substance were encountered in associated arterial hypertension and was present in all the patients with distinct cerebral atrophy. Diffuse lesions of the white substance (leukareosis) showed no relationship to any of the factors studied.

[The social rehabilitation of neurosurgical patients].

The authors analyze the theoretical problems of estimating the effectiveness of rehabilitation of patients with brain lesions. Describe an original scale for assessing social rehabilitation of neurosurgical patients. Relate the results of the follow-up of a group of patients after brain surgery. Analyze the dependence of the effectiveness of social rehabilitation on some demographic, clinical and neuropsychological criteria.

[Various approaches to restoration of visual memory in aphasia].

The techniques of restitution of visual memory in aphasia patients are described. A specially designed testing procedure proved their efficiency. Analyzed is the dependence of visual memory restitution on the form and severity of aphasia, age and educational level of the patients. Verbal mediation of the memorized visual information is uneffective in aphasia. The results are treated in terms of psychological and neuropsychological concepts of memory.

[Visual memory in aphasics].

The capacity of memorization and subsequent recognition and reproduction of visual images of various degrees of verbalization was studied experimentally in patients with different forms of aphasia. The nature of visual memory disorders was found to correlate with specific characteristics of disturbances of higher psychic functions in different forms of aphasia. It was revealed that in aphasic versus normal subjects, the way of trace ecphoria was more important for memorization than the degree of material verbalization. The authors analyze specific features of the reverse development of visual memory disorders associated with various forms of aphasia over rehabilitation training.

[Various aspects of personality change in aphasia].

An experimental study of self-estimation of patients with aphasia carried out by the polar profile method in the course of restorative training is described. It is shown that the aphasia causes substantial changes in the patients' self-estimation that manifest themselves in a disparity of the latter during and before the disease. A comparison with a control group of neurological patients without aphasia showed a specificity of the revealed changes for aphasia and their connection with the communication disruption. As the general and verbal communication restore, a positive course of the patients' self-estimation, and approach of the latter to the premorbid level are noted. A relation between the self-estimation shift and the aphasia form was discovered. A conclusion on diagnostic and prognostic importance of personality examination in aphasia is drawn.

[Disruption and recovery of grammatical speech in patients with acoustic-mnestic aphasia].

The clinical picture of acustico-mnestical aphasia, besides defects of understanding, naming and reiteration is characterized by disorders of a grammatical shaping of statements as well. Such disorders as yet have not been specially studied. The conducted study explored disorders and rehabilitation of speech grammar in 10 patients with acustico-mnestical aphasia with the aid of a neuro-linguistical analysis of spontaneous speech in patients and some special tests. The study made it possible to eliminate general types of agrammatism in different forms of aphasia and disorders, specific of acustico-mnestical aphasia. The suggested methods appeared to be adequate for a rehabilitation of speech grammar in this group of patients. Besides rehabilitative training may be used as a supplementary method for studying the character and structure of agrammatism in acustico-mnestical aphasia. The achieved results may be used for the diagnostics and rehabilitation of speech in this form of aphasia.
