[Study on identification using frontal sinus computer radiographic films of Han population in Sichuan province].

OBJECTIVE: To study identical indexes of frontal sinus in different locative computer radiology. METHODS: Frontal sinus radiographs were analysed by combining indexes of kinds of distances and patterns, further using descriptive study to describe frontal sinus and to analyse data statistically. RESULTS: The 8-identical classification of frontal sinus was proposed, basing on the ratio of frontal sinus width and orbit width, the bilateral asymmetry, the superiority of side, the numbers of arches of upper borders (left and right), the partial septa (left and right) and the location of the central septa. There was no statistical significance of sinus between sexes (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Frontal sinus is tremendous inter-individual variation so it can be used for identification, but it can not be used for sex determination.

[Study on the indexes of forensic identification by the occlusal-facial digital radiology].

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the coding of full dentition with 32 locations and measure the characteristics of some bony indexes in occlusal-facial digital radiology (DR). METHODS: To select randomly three hundred DR orthopantomogram and code the full dentition, then analyze the diversity of dental patterns. To select randomly one hundred DR lateral cephalogram and measure six indexes (N-S,N-Me,Cd-Gn,Cd-Go,NP-SN,MP-SN) separately by one odontologist and one trained forensic graduate student, then calculate the coefficient variation (CV) of every index and take a correlation analysis for the consistency between two measurements. RESULTS: (1) The total diversity of 300 dental patterns was 75%.It was a very high value. (2)All six quantitative variables had comparatively high CV value.(3) After the linear correlation analysis between two measurements, all six coefficient correlations were close to 1. This indicated that the measurements were stable and consistent. CONCLUSION: The method of coding full dentition in DR orthopantomogram and measuring six bony indexes in DR lateral cephalogram can be used to forensic identification.

[Forensic applications of the sequencing of mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase subunit I and II gene for idenfication of Sarcosaphagous flies (diptera)].

OBJECTIVE: This study was based on a 278 and 635 bp region of the gene for cytochrome oxidase subunit I and I (CO I and CO II ) encoding region of mtDNA; the aim was to solve the problems in identifying Sarcosaphagous flies, particularly in the flies' larvae and eggs which could not be identified only by use of their morphologyical features. METHODS: Samples of sarcosaphagous flies and larvae were collected from those on the corps of rabbits on the grassland in the Huhhot district and of a pig on the sandy ground in the Dunhuang district. The mtDNA of flies and their larvae and eggs was extracted using the Chelex technique. Polymerase chain reactions were conducted on a Perkin-Elmer 9600 thermal cycler, followed by vertical non-denaturing polyacrylamide gelectrophoresis. PCR products were purified using the Nucleic Acid Purification Kit. Sequences of both strands were obtained by direct sequencing of the double-stranded PCR product using one of the PCR primers and the ABI PRISM Big Dye Terminator Cycle Sequencing Kit. Sequence reactions were electrophoresed on ABI Model 377 DNA Sequencers. A neighbour-joining tree using the Tamura and Nei model of nucleotide substitution was constructed using the MEGA2. 1 package. RESULTS: A 278 and 635 bp region of the gene for CO I and CO II encoding region of mtDNA of Sarcosaphagous flies and their larvae and eggs was noted to show the percentages for the sequence divergence within species (less than 1%) and the sequence divergence between species (above 3%). For species that diverged from all others by a relatively large percentage and had small within-species variation, the least percentages of sequence divergence were given which distinguished any individual within that species from any other species. CONCLUSION: A 278 and 635 bp region of the gene for CO I and CO II encoding region of mtDNA of Sarcosaphagous flies and their larvae and eggs has been effectively used for the molecular phylogeny and the identification of their species group. CO I and CO II, or CO II, is better than CO I.

[A case-crossover study on road traffic injury].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the risk factors of road traffic injury (RTI), and to provide evidence for stretagy development on the prevention and control of RTI. METHODS: Case-crossover study was used. 402 drivers were face to face interviewed by specially designed questionnaire including the items as drinking alcohol before driving, onset anger scale (OAS), anxiety/irritation, Stanford sleepiness scale (SSS), vehicle breakdown, carelessness, violating the rules on right of way and traffic signs when driving. Tables related to case-control study on 1:1 matching was used for single factor analysis, and conditional logistic regression was used for multifactor analysis. RESULTS: The risk factors that were associated with RTI including high OAS (OAS = 5-7, OR = 114.88, 95% CI:4.29-3074.86), violating the rules on right of way (OR = 46.96, 95% CI:12.74-173.11), violating traffic signs when driving(OR = 24.57, 95% CI: 8.69-69.45), carelessness (OR = 14. 54,95% CI: 6.85-30.86), unsafe distance between vehicles( OR = 14.30,95% CI: 3.68-55.60), wrong judgement (OR = 14.67,95% CI:4.88-44.10), vehicle breakdown (OR = 8.57, 95% CI: 1.38- 53.27) and improper measure ( OR = 8.46, 95% CI: 2.46-29.14) etc. CONCLUSION: Improper driving behaviors, abnormal psychological status and driving skills of drivers were related to RTI, suggesting that it was necessary to carry out continous traffic security education to the drivers.
