Strategic planning for the material management function.

Abstract

Strategic planning and strategic management are essential if a department intends to adapt and survive in the rapidly changing health care environment. Many hospitals require their individual departments to submit strategic plans and annual budgets. This is a sound management practice. In those institutions that do not require strategic plans, I would suggest that the departments take it upon themselves to go through this exercise. The benefits are tangible and long-lasting.
