Power in practice.

Abstract

An action research project was undertaken which involved the implementation of a computerised system in a large public hospital. This paper describes the nature of the power dynamics present during the process. It was found that the potential for the use of power was particularly evident in an environment of organisational turbulence and that a variety of power bases and activities were present. The relevance of power and influence in the achievement of effective management action is discussed.
