Designing for the future.
Abstract
Manufacturers of medical equipment are faced with an environment of intense competition and continual technological change. The self-testing and home-diagnostic equipment markets, for example, are growing and in these areas the end-user is also the purchaser and a sophisticated consumer, living in a very design-conscious environment. This factor makes new demands on manufacturers, who must take into account consumer preferences as well as the ability of their products to function effectively. This article outlines some of the problems that manufacturers now face and offers suggestions on how companies can succeed in the future.
