Abstract

Retention of OTs in mental health had been falling in one trust, with as many as 75 per cent of senior-2 posts becoming vacant during one year. OTs surveyed cited their most popular reason for leaving a post as no career development and their most popular reason for staying as working in mental health. The survey has been used to improve trust retention strategies, using information on each grade to meet the specific needs of those groups.

Medicaid program; modification of the Medicaid upper payment limit for non-state government-owned or operated hospitals. Final rule.

This final rule modifies the Medicaid upper payment limit (UPL) provisions to remove the 150 percent UPL for inpatient hospital services and outpatient hospital services furnished by non-State government-owned or operated hospitals. This final rule is part of this Administration's efforts to restore fiscal integrity to the Medicaid program and reduce the opportunity for abusive funding practices based on payments unrelated to actual covered Medicaid services.

Medical secretaries. Making the grade.

A review of the role of medical secretaries in a surgical directorate has reduced turnover among this group to zero. Previously the directorate had difficulty with recruitment and often had to rely on agency staff. The review led to the introduction of the new post of business coordinator, and all medical secretaries in the directorate have now achieved this level. The review led to an expanded role for medical secretaries which has increased their job satisfaction.
