Downsizing: the Griffin Hospital experience.
Abstract
Author John Naisbitt, in Megatrends, referred to Connecticut as a bellwether state. The Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut, has found itself in that position. While other administrators were talking of predictions of declining average daily census and length of stay, Griffin was experiencing these declines. And, while others were beginning the inevitable process toward downsizing, Griffin was already addressing the problem. This article details Griffin's successful downsizing effort and its plans to continue to cope with the factors that led to the original decision to downsize.
