Simulating patient care.
Abstract
In a pioneering program, medical students are introduced to the unique challenges of taking a medical history and examining patients who cannot speak because of severe developmental disabilities. Contact with patient simulators helps the medical students develop the interpersonal skills needed to elicit vital information directly from nonverbal patients.
