Abstract
PROBLEM: Clinicians and support staff struggled with the need to carefully track the clinical information flowing through the practice in a paper-based system, while at the same time providing the best possible patient care. SOLUTION: A browser-based software application automated the practice's complete workflow system--from scheduling and referrals management to lab and radiology results. RESULTS: Consolidated information and workflow management means everyone spends less time chasing paper and more time caring for patients. KEYS TO SUCCESS: Because today's information technology moves in a rapid sequence of incremental innovations, you can't wait for a "final" solution before you begin to automate.
