Two syntheses of FF-MAS.

[reaction: see text] Follicular fluid-meiosis activating sterol (FF-MAS) has been shown to be an efficient inducer of meiotic maturation. It can potentially be used for improvements of in vitro fertilization techniques. Two short synthesis of FF-MAS are presented in this article. Both syntheses are based on microbiological degradations of sterol side chains. FF-MAS can be synthesized in nine steps from commercially available starting materials by both routes.

High-field NMR studies of 3beta-tetrahydropyranyloxy steroids.

Comprehensive NMR studies were carried out on 3beta-hydroxy-pregnene and cholestene analogs, each containing a tetrahydropyranyl ether group at the 3-position. Two-dimensional NMR experiments (COSY, TOCSY, HSQC, and HSQC-TOCSY) permitted the complete assignments of both the (1)H and (13)C resonances of these derivatives in deuterated benzene or chloroform. The aromatic solvent-induced NMR signal shifts (ASIS) were also investigated.

A new triterpenoid from Azadirachta indica.

A new triterpenoid, 1 alpha,7 alpha-diacetoxyapotirucall-14-en e-3 alpha, 21,22,24,25-pentaol (1), and the two known compounds odoratone (2) and 2 beta,3 beta,4 beta-trihydroxypregnan-16-o ne (3) were isolated from a methanolic extract of the seed kernels of Azadirachta indica. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral methods.
