Compression hosiery in a surgical unit.

Abstract

A small pilot study was set up to indicate the appropriateness of the assessment of patients for anti-embolus prophylaxis in a surgical unit. The results suggested some flaws in current practice, particularly in relation to assessment of risk factors and patient information procedures. Discussions with ward staff on the results have initiated changes in nursing interventions which will be evaluated on an on-going basis.
