[Capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection in capillary electrophoresis].

Capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C4D) is a new detection technique has been developed in recent years and used mainly in capillary electrophoresis and microchip electrophoresis. The characteristics of C4D detector are simple in structure, easy in miniaturization and integration, and free of electrodes contamination, which are common problems in an electrochemical detection. The principles and progresses of C4D in capillary electrophoresis are reviewed.

Conductometric, surface tension, and kinetic studies in mixed SDS-Tween 20 and SDS-SB3-12 micellar solutions.

Micellization in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethyl-3-ammonio-1-propanesulfonate and SDS-polyoxyethylenesorbitan monolaurate binary surfactant solutions was studied by means of conductivity and surface tension measurements. These studies showed that two types of micellar aggregates are present in the mixed micellar solutions. Two reactions were investigated in these micellar media, the oxidation of 1-methoxy-4-(methylthio)benzene by IO(4)(-) and the spontaneous hydrolysis of phenyl chloroformate. Information on the distribution of reagents in the micellar reaction media was obtained through conductivity and spectroscopic measurements. Discussion of the kinetic data showed that the redox reaction takes place mainly in the aqueous phase of the mixed solutions, whereas hydrolysis occurs in the aqueous as well as in the micellar pseudophase. Variations in the observed rate constants of the two processes studied are gradual within the whole surfactant concentration range investigated, revealing little information about the mixed micellar medium.

Use of ac admittance voltammetry to study very fast electron-transfer reactions. The [Ru(NH3)6]3+/2+ system in water.

The kinetics of electroreduction of Ru(NH3)6(3+) has been studied at a polycrystalline gold electrode using high-frequency ac admittance voltammetry. It is shown that precise kinetic data may be obtained for a very fast electron-transfer reaction using this technique. The kinetic data show a small double layer effect when the concentration of HClO4 used as background electrolyte is varied. This is discussed in terms of the point of zero charge, which is very close to the standard potential for the studied reaction.
