Distant diagnosis.

Abstract

Effective communications are essential for any operation and for management of health-related problems. Telemedicine has altered profoundly the manner in which primary care physicians can interact with hospitals and specialists. As dedicated medical ICT systems evolve, medical care will be delivered to patients in remote locations in a more efficient and cost-effective way. Companies invariably have a vision that healthcare decisions benefiting patient care should be made anytime and anywhere in a model that facilitates care at the point of need. The development of telemedicine programs is inevitable as business globalization expands to more challenging cultural and geographic areas.

Imaging tumour angiogenesis.

The development of neovasculature via angiogenesis is a vital component of many normal physiological processes and a number of disease states. Neovascularisation is critical for the growth of malignant tumours and for the development and survival of metastases. Recently, the potential of non-invasive imaging for the functional characterisation of neovasculature has become realised. In this review we describe the process of tumour angiogenesis for radiologists and present a summary of the most available computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging techniques that can depict the functional vascular status of human tumours.

Lymphoepithelial cyst of the pancreas: case report with special reference to imaging--pathologic correlation.

We report a case of resected lymphoepithelial cyst of the pancreas with special reference to the imaging-pathologic correlation. Visualization of a multilocular cystic nature with internal heterogeneous hyperechogenicity on ultrasound, hyperdensity on precontrast computed tomography, and granular hypointensity on T2-weighted image due to abundant internal keratin substances were considered to be keys to the differential diagnosis from other cystic lesions of the pancreas.

[Soft sarcoma tissue of extremities: medical imagery in post-therapeutic follow-up].

After treatment of primary soft tissue sarcoma, a third of patients will develop local or distant (lung in 90% of cases) recurrence. For an individual patient, the issue of cancer recurrence is a binary event. However, when developing surveillance strategies for large groups of patients, knowledge of the risks (tumor biology, natural history of the disease), the benefits (potential efficacy of salvage therapy) and diagnosis test performances is necessary to formulate a rationale and resource effective follow-up algorithm.
