Performance-based programs gain ground, offer 'real dollars' to providers.

Abstract

Performance-based physician incentive plans are proliferating, with more than four dozen initiatives now covering more than 30% of all HMO and PPO members across the U.S. Health plans that have implemented pay for performance programs see them as an important business strategy for improving health care quality while meeting a variety of other goals.
