Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the aorta complicated by anuria.

Tumors of the aorta have been reported infrequently in the literature. We report a case of a 63-year-old woman diagnosed with malignant aortic fibrous histiocytoma (also known as fibroxanthosarcoma). She was referred to us with suspected occlusion of the right renal artery in a single functioning kidney, with a clinical picture of anuria during the previous 48 hours. We also review 31 previously published cases in the literature.

Anuria

An unusual cause of anuria in a burned child.

When treating children with burns we avoid catheterization whenever possible since the complications may outweigh the benefits. We present the case of a 1-year-old infant with 13 per cent burns who required catheterization. The catheter knotted in the bladder, obstructing urine outflow. A general anaesthetic was required to remove it.

Anuria

Anuria due to lithiasis associated with septic shock.

During 18 months 38 patients with anuria due to lithiasis were admitted in our department, 8 of them developed septic shock. Twenty eight patients were cured using different procedures and were released from the hospital with normal urinary output. Ten patients died, 6 of them from septic shock, which has a high mortality rate. Emergency restoration of urinary flow, correction of fluid and electrolyte imbalance, massive antibiotherapy may improve results.
