[Screening C282Y mutation with double-stranded probes using synchronous fluorometry].

Abstract

We described in the paper a new high-throughput screening method for Cys282Tyr mutation in hereditary haemochromatosis with double-stranded probe using synchronous fluorometry. The probe for wild type was labeled with Fam, the probe for mutant type was labeled with Joe. After PCR, reaction tubes were transferred to a spectrofluorometer, where synchronous spectra were scanned in a constant-wavelength mode. The genotype could be obtained through the appearance of the fluorescence peaks corresponding to each probe. The results were totally in agreement with restriction endonuclease analysis. Considering the simplicity, low cost and specificity, this approach could be generally applied to detect varieties of gene mutations.

[Li(MoO2)2O(AsO4)].

Single crystals of the molybdenum arsenate Li(MoO2)2O(AsO4) [lithium bis(dioxomolybdenum) arsenate oxide] have been prepared by solid-state reaction. The framework of Li(MoO2)2O(AsO4) consists of corner-shared Mo2AsO12 structural units, which form layers parallel to the ab plane. The Mo2AsO12 units result from the association of corner-shared AsO4 tetrahedra and Mo2O9 dimers. The Li+ ions are located between layers in a square-based-pyramidal environment. This structure is compared with those containing M2O9 dimers (M = Mo, Fe or V). The As, Li and one of the O atoms lie at sites with mm symmetry, while the Mo atom and two of the O atoms lie at sites with m symmetry.

[catena-Poly[[[(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine)copper(II)]-mu-oxalato] tetrahydrate]].

In the title compound, {[Cu(C2O4)(C6H16N2)].4H2O}n, the Cu atom is six-coordinate in a distorted octahedral geometry, and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine acts as a chelating ligand. The oxalate anion, which lies about an inversion centre, bridges the metal cations and forms infinite chains. The structure cohesion is ensured by hydrogen-bonding interactions, which form a three-dimensional framework.

[History of obstetrics in nineteenth-century Brazil].

This research aimed at recovering the peculiarities of the development of Obstetrical Art in Brazil during XIX century, starting in 1808, when a legal act signed by D. Joao VI included this discipline in the initial curriculum of the schools of medicine and surgery founded in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. Research was undertaken through the review of 83 medical theses in the field of Obstetrics, produced in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro in XIX century. The data showed that Obstetrical Art was traditionally performed by women called "aparadeiras" (catchers) or "comadres", who cared for women before, during and after delivery, and provided assistance in other situations, like venereal diseases and abortion. The inclusion of physicians-obstetricians in this practice led not only to a scrutinizing of the female body, but also to the production of an anatomical and physiological knowledge of the female organism from a male standpoint.
