Radiation therapy is often used to achieve local control of pelvic Ewing sarcoma in children. The effects of radiation on the female reproductive tract have been well documented in adults with gynecological malignancies, but the long-term consequences of pelvic radiation in pre-pubertal or adolescent girls are not as well described. We report a case of hematometrocolpos developing in an adolescent previously treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy for pelvic Ewing sarcoma. We describe the clinical presentation, radiographic features, gross pathology, treatment strategies, outcome, as well as putative predisposing factors and preventative interventions.
Primitive malignant neoplasms affecting the distal third of the tibia are altogether rare, and their treatment is considerably controversial. The authors describe the diagnostic procedure and a particular surgical strategy of limb salvage in a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma located at the distal third of the tibia, in particular pointing out the difficulties in restoring the continuity of the skeletal tissues and of the muscle, and with a review of the relevant literature.
We report the case of a 57-year-old man who presented with two local recurrences and metastatic dissemination of a papillary meningioma of the sphenoid 3 years after surgery. Treatment consisted in a combination of surgery for the local recurrence in the initial site, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for bone metastases. Evolution of the disease spread over 7.5 years. The literature relating metastatic meningiomas is reviewed; prognostic factors and main therapeutic protocols are discussed.
