Using clinical focus guidelines to emphasize processes of learning.

Abstract

Clinical focus guidelines provide a written, explicit statement about what is to be learned, what specific activities will help to bring about the learning, and what evaluation will be conducted. The thrust of guidelines is on processes that will be applicable throughout students' practice of nursing in whatever setting they choose. All actors in the educational process--student, preceptors, and faculty--have the same expectations when clinical learning is clarified through the use of clinical focus guidelines.
