Stress echocardiology.
Abstract
Stress echocardiography is a convenient, rapid alternative technique for the assessment of myocardial ischemia. It clearly adds much information to regular stress electrocardiography, and it provides clear alternative to stress thallium. It also provides an estimated ejection fraction and regional wall motion abnormalities. Whether or not echocardiography is preferable to stress thallium tests is presently determined by institutional preferences. There are some institutions with substantial expertise in radionuclide techniques, and there it is probably the best choice. In others with equivalent expertise in ultrasound, it is your best test. If there is expertise in both areas, there is a growing national preference for the convenience of stress echocardiography.
