Border separation for adjacent orthogonal fields.

Abstract

Field border separations for adjacent orthogonal fields can be calculated geometrically, given the validity of some important assumptions such as beam alignment and field uniformity. Thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD) measurements were used to investigate dose uniformity across field junctions as a function of field separation and, in particular, to review the CCSG recommendation for the treatment of medulloblastoma with separate head and spine fields.

Craniosynostosis in association with medulloblastoma.

A case of a 13-month-old boy with craniosynostosis associated with medulloblastoma was presented. Sagittal suture was prematurely closed, and coronal and lambdoid sutures were widely separated. A large infiltrative tumor in the midcerebellar region was partially removed and treated by irradiation and chemotherapy. A review of the current literature failed to reveal a similar report.

Reversal of radiation-induced neutropenia by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor.

Myelosuppression is a common sequelae of radiotherapy, occasionally delaying the completion of treatment. In this report, we describe successful reversal of radiation-induced neutropenia in a child receiving craniospinal irradiation by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). We suggest that G-CSF be considered as supportive care in patients in whom neutropenia develops during radiotherapy.
