With 400,000 sufferers in the United Kingdom, leg ulceration exacts a heavy toll in terms of human discomfort and disease and expenditure of limited health service resources. Janice Cameron gives pointers on the diagnosis and treatment of the condition, emphasising the crucial role of the nurse. She then goes on to explore methods of prophylaxis against recurrence of ulceration.
