Technique for press-fit implants.

Abstract

The press-fit implants can be used in any edentulous area with sufficient width and depth of bone for support. Clinical studies of at least one of the HA-coated systems have shown good results in the placement of the implant in extraction sockets, previous grafted ridges, and in conjunction with both autogeneous and synthetic bone grafts. The surgical placement must not traumatize the soft or hard tissue. The implant must be placed in a stressfree environment during the 3- or 4-month healing period. A variety of prosthetic components are available for both fixed and removable prostheses.

[The effect of the different metal components on bracket adhesive strength in the Silicoater procedure].

This study was undertaken to test the theory that different kind of metal alloys can influence the bond strength of the silane treated bracket bases. Seven different types of brackets, each with different metal properties, were tested. 20 brackets of each type were used, half of them were silanated with a special Silicoater treatment. The following conclusions can be made: 1. The silane coated plain bracket demonstrated a higher bond strength than all the tested untreated brackets; 2. the brackets of the company Dentaurum demonstrated a statistically significant higher bond strength than the brackets of all the other companies.

Comparison of tensile strength of solder joints by infrared and conventional torch technique.

Fabrication of a fixed partial denture may require a soldering step. This study compared soldering by a conventional torch procedure with an infrared soldering technique. Comparisons were made for tensile strength, porosity, and time efficiency between the two methods. No significant difference was found in ultimate tensile strength between the two types of solder joints and the nonsoldered control samples. Random samples photographed with a scanning electron microscope revealed no difference in joint porosity between the two techniques. Torch soldering took consistently less time that infrared soldering.

Amalcore strength recovery following refilling of access preparations with amalgam.

After endodontic treatment through an amalgam core, the recommended procedure is to replace the entire core. This study examined the strength achieved by restoring the access openings with dental amalgam and reported the type of failure during strength testing. Seventy-two Dispersalloy 8 x 8 mm cylindrical specimens were produced using controlled condensation pressures. The specimens were randomized in three groups: (1) controls, (2) 3 mm access preparations wetted with mercury-rich amalgam before restoration, and (3) 3 mm access preparations restored unwetted. The specimens tested for compressive strength were separated in two subsets. The unwetted group demonstrated significantly less strength than the control and wetted group (p less than 0.05), while the unwetted and wetted groups revealed significantly less strength than the control group (p less than 0.05). The mean diametral tensile strength recovery for the wetted and unwetted groups was 76% and 69%, respectively. The qualitative assessment of the fracture zones indicated that wetted specimens exhibited more fractures through the new amalgam core than the unwetted specimens (p less than 0.05). It would appear that amalgam refilling of access preparations through amalgam cores has clinical potential.
