Mandibular overdenture treatment. Case report.

Abstract

Complete mandibular dentures have a significantly lower success rate compared with complete maxillary dentures. Overdentures are feasible alternatives in many instances in attempting to achieve an optimal clinical result. The case of a 56-year-old female patient requiring prosthetic rehabilitation is discussed. A complete maxillary denture and a complete mandibular overdenture were constructed.

Palatogram assessment of maxillary complete dentures.

Phonetics, esthetics, function, and comfort form the foundation of a successful dental prosthesis. A review of the mechanics of speech as well as common speech problems encountered with a removable maxillary prosthesis are presented. The use of a palatogram to aid the clinician in the assessment and resolution of speech problems associated with a maxillary denture is demonstrated.
