[Overdenture screws].

Abstract

The progressive significant characteristics of the cover-denture-screw are proved. The computer-recordings of the cover-denture-screw don't show any extreme maxima at a complex distribution of tension because of the favourable form-design of the screw. An obvious low concentration of tension mainly in the cervical part of the screw is the result of the special form of the implant.

Reliability of a paralleling instrument for dental radiographs.

The reliability of a paralleling instrument for dental radiographs was retrospectively evaluated in the course of a 6-month clinical study. The angular variation between successive exposures was precisely quantified. Ninety-one percent of the angular variations were below a 1.4 degree threshold, but some paired images were found unsuitable for quantitative analysis. A mathematic procedure to assess the global angular projection error of any similar coupled x-ray cone-film holder device is proposed. This mathematic procedure should be routinely used to check superimposability of serial radiographs before density quantification or subtraction.

Functional reconstruction of a bilateral maxillectomy defect using a fibula osteocutaneous flap with osseointegrated implants.

We have achieved functional reconstruction for a bilateral upper alveolar bone, gingival, and palatal defect that has various problems originating from instability of the prosthesis using the fibula osteocutaneous flap with osseointegrated implants. The flap had three bone segments and two skin paddles. The combined bone segments created the upper alveolar arch, and the skin paddles closed the palatal defect. Nine months later, prosthodontic treatment was performed successfully. Our procedure restored the patient to masticatory function of the upper jaw, intelligible speech, and natural facial appearance. As a result, quality of life of the patient was extremely improved.
