Fluorous synthesis of disubstituted pyrimidines.

[reaction: see text] The fluorous synthesis of disubstituted pyrimidines is carried out by attaching 2,4-dichloro-6-methylpyrimidine with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecanethiol. The tagged substrate is substituted with 3-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazole followed by thioether oxidation and tag displacement with amines or thiols. The fluorous chain serves as a phase tag for intermediate and product purification over FluoroFlash SPE cartridges.

2-Deoxy-2-iodo-beta-glucopyranosyl fluorides: mild and highly stereoselective glycosyl donors for the synthesis of 2-deoxy-beta-glycosides from beta-hydroxy ketones.

2-Deoxy-2-iodo-beta-glucopyranosyl fluoride 14 is a highly stereoselective glucopyranosyl donor that may be activated under mild conditions. Application of this new glycosyl donor to the glycosidation reactions of a variety of acceptors including beta-hydroxy ketones affords beta-glycosides with high efficiency and stereoselectivity. Fluoride uptake by glass ionomer cements: a surface analysis approach.

Despite extensive research, the mechanism by which glass ionomer cements take up fluoride ions from solution remains unclear. To date, the majority of studies have concentrated on measuring the removal of ions from solution. In this study, we demonstrate the application of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry to the surface analysis of the cements, after the introduction of fluoride either by doping or by immersion. Fluoride ion uptake from potassium fluoride solution is correlated with the formation of a surface layer which is rich in calcium as well as fluoride.
