Abstract
The ward sister is expected to have an active role in the clinical teaching of the student nurse - but does she have the time? By effective planning of duty rosters and intentional delegation, it is possible to create learning experiences for student nurses, which, when combined with guidance and supervision by the ward sister or tutor, is worth more than formal clinical lectures.
