Abstract

The use of temporary A-V sequential cardiac pacing has become increasingly popular in acute care settings today. This physiologic mode of pacing can greatly improve the patient's hemodynamic status and is often an essential adjunct in patient management. The complexity of this pacing system, however, has created new challenges in the nursing management of these patients. This article outlines the technical aspects of the temporary A-V sequential pacing system necessary for understanding the guidelines for its programming and troubleshooting.
