The immediate overdenture. A case history.

Abstract

A case is described of application of the immediate overdenture technique to restore function, speech and aesthetics in a patient with extreme resorption of the maxillary anterior residual ridge. In the opinion of the authors, retention of the roots of the remaining teeth most definitely contributed to the retention, stability and overall success of the denture (Figs. 9, 10).

Minor preprosthetic surgical procedures.

Minor preprosthetic surgical procedures used in correcting an existing problem or in preparing the mouth for prostheses must be based on an exact diagnosis and carefully planned and executed to satisfy clearly definable goals. This article emphasizes that philosophy and includes surgical techniques for managing commonly encountered problems as well as those problems associated with placement of immediate dentures. Predictable results with minimal complications can be expected when one adheres to these guidelines.

Esthetic and emotional factors in immediate denture construction.

Some patients delay the extraction of infected teeth because of the fear and dread of becoming edentulous. In immediate denture service, the humiliating edentulous period is eliminated. An immediate denture is defined as a "denture constructed for insertion immediately following the removal of the natural teeth" and is desirable and indicated for a majority of patients who lose their remaining teeth. This article discusses techniques and materials used in the preparation of immediate dentures.
